engine burning oil

i think my engine is chewing up oil but i have never ever seen any smokey color in exhaust fumes, i cant see any leaks....any thoughts.......is it natural for an engine to burn a little oil

it dropped a quater of a dipstick in about a week, i havent driven the car since to see if i can see were it may be going

 

That's not normal mate, around 0.5 litre for every 5000 miles (10-20% hard driving) is nothing to worry about

 

How many miles did you do?

 

Edit-I see yours is an n/a, you should have minimal oil loss.

i do about 150 miles a week, i have been checking the oil and water on a daily basis, i rolled back the car to check underneath to see for oil residue on the floor but nothing

you probably wouldn't see anything on the floor given there should be an undertray beneath the engine mate.

i would not worry about it to be honest - check the level again after its been driven (and then left to cool :p ) a while later to see if its gone down.... :)

Strange,

 

Was it parked in the same place when you checked? Did you allow sufficient time for the oil to collect in the sump?

i have not driven the car for a week just moved it back and forward to see for leaks, no oil has leaked since i checked last as it has not been driven, i will drive it tommorow and check after that
