View Full Version : Turbo Kits
Hi,
Just a quicky, what are the differences in terms of max power output and spool up time between the PHR Stage 1 turbo kit and the PHR Street turbo kit.
From what I can see they both have the same GT60 turbo but theres quite a bit of difference in price.
Is there any advantage of one over the other?
Unfortunatly not in a position to buy right now but hopefully will be after Christmas.....
Thanks, John

Maybe I can help LOL.
The PHR Street Kit was designed to be used with the stock fueling system, MAF meter, and stock cats (if desired). With a smaller cast-steel manifold and smaller ITS 50mm wastegate, its really not setup to do more than about 500 WHP, but can do more. Spool up is fast because its a short runner cast steel manifold, but again, peak HP is limited and these cannot be upgraded.
The PHR Stage 1 is the first of our "modular" kits so it can be upgraded by simply changing the turbo to a bigger one. The HKS tubular manifold and HKS GT60mm wastegate can handle big horsepower levels, but because its a long-tube header the spool up is slightly different than the Street kit. Advantage is, the Stage 1 makes alot of midrange torque because of the tuned header design.
It really depends on your ultimate HP goal and how you drive the car. If you need the stock cats for MOT, and you only want 500 WHP or so, then the Street Kit is fine. If you have loftier HP goals and you want to upgrade, or want more torque, the Stage 1is a bit better.
Thanks,
When you say the Street Kit can do 500whp, what fuel is that on?
I have some 650cc injectors (for standard fuel rail) and HKS piggy-back ecu, would that be enough to run the stage 1 kit?

We can run 500 WHP on the street kit using our pump fuel (93 octane).
650cc injectors and an HKS ECU would be fine to support the Stage 1 kit up to about 600 WHP or so on high octane fuel. Just be sure to have twin pumps in the tank or one large HKS pump.
Thanks!
We run 99octane fuel here now, which has loads of adatives in it as well.
Think i'll save a little extra for the Stage one kit, at the moment I dont want massive top end power at the moment but if i ever change my mind it will give me that option.
At the moment I want my car to be like a rocket from 0-60mph, 0-100mph and also from 70-150mph (for track day use). Would stage 1 be the ideal kit for this??

We use 99RON they use 93MON.
2 Different standards, but 93 and 99 are similar in actual performance.

Yes thats right, its virtually the same stuff. Dont get too confused as US figures differ alot from UK figures.

Stage 1 would be ideal for anything like this. With full torque available from 4000 RPM nearly to redline, you have instant throttle response and acceleration in any gear at any time.
Our fuels are certainly different from yours, but I dont see why you cant approach 500 WHP with your fuels.
Thanks,
I am very happy with my PHR stage 1 :) as Jarrett was saying from 4000rpm the acceleration is significantly better than BPU in fact I am really struggling with traction! The quality of the kit is excellent and when I was installing it all the major components were a perfect fit!
TBH as a fast road street car I don’t think I would want to go much more with the power (mainly because of the traction), I may remap and up the boost after I’ve rebuilt my engine and gearbox but at the moment it’s great. Also I don’t fine problems with lag either and I’m running an autobox!
Well worth the money matey

Rob
