Guest mk47
i want to have a go at doing this myself today as i dont think it'll be too hard.. or am i wrong? i have a socket set except i dont think the nut things are going to be long enough to reach the plugs - or are they? just the standard socket set is what i have. and one last question - any step by step guides on how to change the plugs? thanks
MaveriK
Its a doddle, only thing to watch is trying not to round off the screws while getting the plug packs off (or whatever they are called)
Guest mk47
plug packs nobody mentioned any plug packs!! also would a standard socket set be sufficient for the job mate?
MaveriK
I am sure they are called something fancy, its the black plastic mounts on top of the plugs them selves. Standard socket will be fine, its not that bad a job to be honest
Guest mk47
Ok i think ill give it a go later - when ive finally slept and woken up. thanks for the advice
jamesmark
Maz it is easy, just dont do what I did and take 2 out at the same time, do one at a time and make sure you put the wires back in the same way the came out (depends if the connecters are broken like mine were. It is easy and standard socket set will do fine, thats what I used with ease.
JohnA
Be careful with the coils, it's easy to get them damaged (they might be cracked and brittle from age and heat) and get misfires afterwards - that you might reasonably attribute to the new plugs. Guest gzaerojon
also make sure your socket has the rubber bit inside to grip the plug when fitting, other wise the plug can slip out and knock the gap closed. You should be able to reach with your fingers so you can always do it by hand
ivan
I've never seen the lump unclothed myself. Has anyone got a pic of the engine with the cover off?
Muffleman
Oh, and don't drop any screws down the side of the plug, it's VERY annoying
Tricky-Ricky
I think you will find the cam cover breather cross pipes the hardest thing to get off without splitting or breaking them;)
heckler
I think you will find the cam cover breather cross pipes the hardest thing to get off without splitting or breaking them;) Before i changed my plugs, I bought new breather pipes, that way you can just cut the old ones off... much easier. Guest mk47
Ok after reading all this about the breather pipes breaking and dropping screws to the sides of plugs and rubber bits to hold the plugs or gaps closing etc, i think im going to get it done by someone who can do it without messing up! Guest mk47
Lol, im clumsy - when i was fitting my bov i dropped one of my clamps into the engine bay onto the under tray and couldnt reach it, so i had to buy another one. then eventually when i changed my oil i found it. i also dropped an allen key in my engine bay when changing my spark plug cover. i found that after hours and hours!
