Just had one of them virus bastards on my pc, the one where it keeps bringing up net pages telling me ive got spyware and to download a certain program to remove it.
Seems to coincide with me removing norton off my pc (uses way too much memory and slows pc down)
Luckily ive got a little program called 'winpatrol', would recommend this to everyone. It tells me if anything is trying to put itself in the startup programs, registry, Ie startups etc. It popped up telling me that a file called 'pmnll.dll' was trying to put itself in the registry as an IE helper. With winpatrol i can either allow it to do so, or not. So i said no, obviously.
The online virus scanners couldnt find a virus, and deleting the file didnt help, there was obviously another which was recreating it if it got removed.
Anyway, i managed to find a lil program called 'vundofix', which scanned the registry files, and completely removed the virus, 4 files in total.
Took about 15mins from the virus getting on my pc until i managed to remove it.
Winpatrol is well worth having for EVERYONE.
You can find it on download.com, its free. If it hadnt been for this, i wouldnt have found out there was a virus, i wouldnt of found out its name, plus it just would've installed itself in the registry without me knowing or having a say about it.
