An alternative course of action is to wear double socks and/or keep it as a summer car.
If you do bite the bullet and fix it, do a thorough coolant flush, because the fecked matrix is usually a sign of neglected coolant changes.
One thing you should NOT do is try these 'miracle in a bottle' fixes that plug the radiator gaps. Big mistake.
This car is well neglected i bought it a week ago with aparently 103000kph on the clock i dont think so a recon its dont over double that an more the water is brown an red an the engine bay is black

It was just blocked but i thought fix or bust so the hose wouldnt move the block this time so i put an airline in the pipe i no it was dodgy but it worked the blockage moved now i got well hot motor
Speak to Martin at MKivStore on here. I used his advise and used some acid stuff from B&Q. It worked a treat but that stuff is lethal, it even burnt through the gloves i was using.
Martin will do this for you for a small fee.
Might be worth a go

 thanks! 2 of those hours were putting the gloves on and deciding whether to have tea of coffee :D
I have to strip out a matrix from a breaker tomorrow. Would hate to have to put it all back together again!! Takes 2 hours just to get the blighter out, and thats not being very gentle! :d
