Following on from this post:

I think it would be a nice idea to hold a BHP leader board on the site, probably in the MKIV technical section as a smaller heading.

Basically this thread is to see what people opinions are on the matter, and to request permission from the mods to set something like this up. As I’ve said in the other thread I wouldn’t mind keeping it updated and generally looking after it as I would really like to put something back into the club that I’ve got a lot out of.

I would hope that everyone would take a section like this as a laugh and not like some people have suggested. I.e. arguing about people’s claims etc.

However, there is usually always one, so I reckon proof would have to be given in the form of a scan of your DYNO graph. Also, If any discrepancies arise and dummies get thrown out etc, then whether or not a BHP figure is included would go to public poll, along with evidence!! So emailing the person in charge of the chart and getting them to add the data would be the best way to do this.

Every member (I would say paid up member too) would be able to submit their DYNO’s and get involved, as to not restrict the initiative to the select top few which I would say is wrong as we are a club and we need to get everyone involved or its not club spirited.

Anyhows, my suggestion to how it could be set up is as follows:

Headings:

Member (ie. Matt_H)
Model (GZ TT)
Type: JSPEC / UK
Year (i.e 96)
Basic modinfo (i.e BPU or Single etc)
BHP at Fly (i.e 410)
BHP at wheels (i.e 340)
Date of DYNO
Link to members garage for more info on spec ect (if garage is available)

Without complete information a BHP claim would not be added to the chart!!

I would also suggest that all the above headings could be sorted in ascending / descending order like excel and the garage itself so people can find a car easily.

The chart would not only be a fun leader board for people to see how there own vehicles compare and for them to become involved in a club initiative, but also for a member to get an idea of what power they maybe looking for and what needs to be done etc.

Also a high light for the most power TT, most powerful car overall and the most powerful N/A and N/A T/TT.

So hopefully we can get this a goer more or less. Please add comments below, but please don’t add things like, well its just going to turn into a big argument, cos im sure that it would only be a few people if any that would get strung up about it. It would be far better to just see how it goes first and scrap it latter if it doesn’t work out rather than just shooting it down before it begins.

Unless they are on a Dyno Dynamics rolling road in "shoot out" mode they would be meaningless IMHO. Having seen certain dynos read nearly 200bhp apart for the same car, hopefully you will understand me being skeptical!

P.P.S in the other thread there was a suggestion that some dynos were to inaccurate on the calculation from wheel to fly.

So my suggestion is we take everyones wheel reading and then use our own calculation on each result to make fly

how will you calculate between hub & rwhp figures. Will you know what gear it was in, the intake temp, the ramp rate, the boost pressure of each dyno submitted?

Intake temp, ramp temp............... does it really matter? taking this far to seriously already!! its not like theres a £2million prize up for grabs! BHP can change in weather, hot or cold etc, so it doesnt matter really, its on a questimate anyway, thats what you got on the day, thats the best power you have achieved.

how about weight of dyno tester too?

Just get an agreed calc for both types. Plus how many people get hub dynos anyway? must only be a select few.

I think it would be nice to include a bit more detailed information instead of just, Twins/BPU/Single.

Like, boost pressure, Auto/6speed, what size turbo or hybrids, etc

From that you would be able to compare more with other cars against your own cars specs v's bhp.

If you insist on going ahead with this train wreck :D why not simply link each entry to the member's garage, where they have their full spec list. So if you are browsing and see someone has eleventy hundred horsepower on their stock twins and are fascinated by how they achieved this, you can clicky on the link and see what mods they have. Saves cluttering things up and would probably be more comprehensive. The entry can then be limited to very basic info like gearbox and turbo type only.

BTW the gear it's dyno'd in is very important - it should be 3rd (auto) or 5th (manual), if it's not then the figure is junk, it'll be artificially high. Oh, hang on... :)

Matt, just to say it obviously mattered to you as you increased your dyno figure in your garage to compensate :p

:D - it was another run at Hyper in Wigan a couple of weeks bad, done in "normal temps" this time!

I think we should keep hub hp out of this dyno chart. Its unfair and its crap! no losses and high bhp which is completely unrealistic.I 've seen stock twins getting 525bhp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a big joke..

A dyno list sounds great, but have you checked out www.virtual-racer.co.uk? I've got a copy and I've been able to use my dyno dynamics file to run 1/4miles on my PC! There's already a Supra MkIV model on there. You can even drag other cars at the same time, and we could post results.

I like it anyway, & i've been able to try other ways to get my 1/4mile down. Different gears and stuff.

Just a thought...
