How much/how long for a stem seals swap?

On start-up I get an off-white with slight blue tinge smoke effect. When I say effect think the same amount of smoke as a Fields of the Nephilim video.:( TBH, It's getting to the stage where I'm ashamed to start the car up from cold if people are around.

It smells faintly of oil burning. I'm assuming it's creeping through the seals at rest and then burning up when the engine is on.

I don't get it at idle once burned off or when pressing the loud pedal in a gentlemanly manner.

So, stem seals? If so, how much on average does the job cost and how long does it take.

Just spoken to our friend Peter, Michael. He reckons about four hours work plus parts.

Sounds a bit optimistic to me but if he's willing to give a fixed price on that book me in asap :)

How much am I looking to need to spend on parts?

There is a list on the guide to give you an idea, the eBay kits come in at around £69 but I think I'd rather go for OEM.

Both myself and Soop Dogg have done our valve stem seals using Toyota stem seals and the Snap-On tool that Tony demonstrated. I took lots of pics but haven't written it up yet

We used the length-of-nylon-rope trick, filling the cylinder with it and raising the piston, and by god it works perfectly. The tool makes taking the retainers off and back on easy, and the tool Brian had for removing the old stem seals made that job a matter of seconds.

4 hours might be a little optimistic even with all this though, it's a long job getting the cams out and back in again. More like 5 to 6 :)
