Hi all,

After about 2 weeks of calls, quotations and hassle! I've finally got my car to an alloy wheel repair and refurb place in the West Midlands. Those of you may recall I had a crash and mangled one of my alloys.

Anyway, I tried 5 garages on Monday day to see if they could remove my locking wheel nut (as I lost the fitment socket!) and they all failed  . These included:

  • Kwik Fit
  • AA Services Garage Solihull Retail Park
  • Plume Tyre and Wheel Specialists
  • Greswolde Garages
  • Dorridge Autos

So, today I went to see a guy called Alan who owns a small wheel refurb garage in Bordersly Green located on Burbridge Way, Unit 6. He managed to remove the nut without fuss and has quote me £40 to fully resphape, weld and powder coat my wheel. I'm not sure what the results will be but I do have every faith in this man and at those prices............;) I've been quoted between £100 - £175 everywhere else. Pic of wheel with damage.

Will update everyone tomorrow when I get the alloy back all done.

Watch this space. :)

Burna, sorry bit of thread hijack but where you going for the RR?

Here Conrad http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=76414

All the spaces have gone but I think some reserves have opened up, you would have to check with S7EVE. If you're not even interested in running at least try and pop over for a burger or two from the BBQ :) Hope to meet you Sunday.

Hijack over :D

Hi Bruna,

Car will be at Chris Wilsons buddy as obviously need the other bits checked first - intercooler, suspension etc. Steve said he'd give me a lift down to meet you boys though so hopefully that's still on! Steve ?? ;)

Hope alls cool mate.

The rim wasn't cracked Stonkin - that's just where the air valve goes mate :) They're all like that. It's just the lip that's badly damaged and touching the tyre wall. Got a nearly new Pirelli P-zero with about 6-7mm tread for £30 all in too 255/40/17 - nice ;)

Will keep you all updated and see you there Burna and Co at the Sol RR! ;)

Got the alloy back on Saturday and he did a fantastic job. Don't get me wrong, it's not a class A premium job and I wouldn't recommend him for expensive £1000+ alloys, but if you need one repaired for low cost with very little giveaway that it's ever been damaged then do it!

Apparently it's fine to weld an alloy as long as the damage is fairly superficial and the actual rim lip itself is still intact (even though it's bent slightly). I'd never push my car at silly speeds anyway.

Pics to follow shortly after I get my car back from Chris with the crash damage report! :(

Hi Voo,

Yep. The lad's name is Alan and his garage is in Bordersley Green. I haven't got his number to hand, Chris Wilson has my car and the receipt is in there.

I'll dig it out when I get it back. He's done a very good job though. He said they could refurb for £30 per wheel and powder coat for an extra £10 too. Mention my name anyway, Greg (Black Sup) as I said I'd try and bring some business his way and he'll sort out members on the forum.

Will PM you his number when I have it.

Cheers and good luck ;)

Another company for alloy refurbs in Brum is "Lap Tab" they do a good job and are quick. Just off junction 6 of the m6 on Gravelly hill.

CLICK ME

Yep, lots of people have also recommended them Colin including Pete.

However - they DO NOT do split rims or buckled alloys so keep that in mind. Only refurbs! ;)
