Uk Brake Discs On Na Jspec

Hi I have a Jspec NA supra


Will the UK brake discs fit my car, or will I have to change the calipers? If so how much are calipers?

Yes you will need to change them. Cant help you on price though. It think around 160-200 each though.

not sure why you would need to upgrade brakes on an NA?

unless you just want them for looks?

Cos an N/A can actually do more than a ton and its the brake fade from over a ton that the UK spec brakes eradicate. A full setup all you need is about £550-£600 for the front and the same for the back. You may get lucky and find some second hand on ebay or what not but don't mention them in here if you see a set as someone will snaffle them out from under you.

very, very true DB, a delimited NA is good for approx 140. I`ve had to stand on mine at 120 for a slip road and it must have been the scariest moment ever in the supe. Down to 80 ok, after that nothing, missed the exit by 100yds..... the most helpless feeling. Around town like miss Daisy they`re ok, but one of the first mods an NA should have imo.

Nah mate its limited at 112 mph lol. Speedo overeads at that speed:D Um as far as grooved discs go the general consensus is that it doesn't make a huge difference. You want to see some improved performance on J-spec brakes get stainless braded hoses, chris wilson road pads (or porterfields) and some new discs, slotted or drilled if you like the look of them but be prepared for them to eat your pads and leave a lot of brake dust.

i don't think you'll neccessarily take it but hears my advice....

A uk setup is pricey and may mean that you'll need new wheels too so you need to check this out before going this route.

Stick with plain non grooved/holed disks and use good fluid, braided brake lines and good quality pads (ie Chris Wilson, Carbotech or Hawk etc)

Good quality pads will retain thier bite at higher temps so won't fade. Good quality fluid will survive the higher temps that the uprated pads will pass on to it and so again this will stop you getting brake fade.

Working calipers, Good pads and high performance fluid is all you need to have good brakes.

Well I was going to post pretty much what Scooter already has but I'll add a little.

Do not fit drilled discs, they WILL crack eventually. Grooved discs offer no real benefit other than wearing your pads down a lot quicker. Stock discs are cheap enough to be considered disposable and are perfectly fine.

Get some quality fast road or, if you can put up with a bit of squeel and more brake dust, race spec pads. I've used the ones Chris Wilson does and porterfield pads which are both excellent (hawk & endless spring to mind as also being good). DO NOT USE EBC PADS ON A HEAVY CAR LIKE THE SUPRA! They are shocking, worse than stock (by the way, the stock toyota pads are still very good!), and I've had some on fire on my old 405Mi16, litterally. They're best off on the max power brigade of cars.

Use a good brake fluid (Motul!), and good quality braided lines, these alone will make a world of difference.

As said already, yes the larger UK spec brakes will fit on an NA, but you would need to change the calipers as well.

cool, Im going to take thorin and scooters advice, seems more sensible and cheaper and efficient :-) ,

Are goodridge brake cables good for supras? I heard there meant to be the best?
where can I get the pads from?
What would you consider to be the best brake fluid?

I also have to find a garage who will do all this for me, I dont know what size the front pads are and I have been told I need to measure it, only thing is that I dont have a jack to fit under the car and its lowered...Is there any way to find out what pads I need without taking the wheel off?

I got some cheap £15 pads from ebay, Nippon non asbestos pads, however I dont know much about the company and I dont know if they fit, i thought they were cheap so jumped....I would prefer a tested and known company for pads..

Mate any garage can change a set of pads for you. If you buy the ones that chris wilson does http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/member.php?u=54 they'll be the right ones.
