Windscreen crack

Hi all,

A darn great 6" crack appeared in my windscreen today while driving up the M5 so I need to get the screen replaced. I nkow the crack and chip that caused it weren't there yesterday as I just changed my tax disc and would definitely have spotted it.

Thing is, I don't have a blue or green tinted band across the top of the screen. Just a slight darkening of the whole windscreen.

The car is a '97 facelift J-Spec RZ-S.

I've done a search, but can't find a part number that would seem to be right.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Ken, I had the same last year....same query over part numbers and colours, the first screen Autoglass came with was wrong...In the end, Autoglass dealt with Toyota direct, just quoting the chassis number and paint code. AFAIR late-model supes with no sun-strip have only one screen option. I'd ring Toyota to be sure.

Also, previous threads stress the importance of demanding the glass replacement company uses the genuine Toyota strips / spacers etc. Again, Autoglass got mine direct from Toyota.

The early J-spec and UK spec cars use the same windscreens, there are 2 colour options/part numbers (part # 56101-14010 and 56101-14020).

First attachment shows part numbers for UK spec, second shows part numbers for J-spec.

yours is a late model (ie. 96+) then these do have a different part number (56101-14050).

Cheers all. I saw that thread (when I searched earlier LOL) but from what Nic said there my glass should still be tinted blue or green:
I could be wrong, but I think all genuine screens have a coloured band across the top, is the one you have fitted at the moment is genuine a Toyota one? It will have Toyota etched onto it if it is. The key thing will be to match the glass colour (blue or green) see part numbers above.

I'm buggered if I can see anything but a grey tint on mine.

Ewen, thanks for that, I'm dealing with Paul from the B'mth RAC/Autoglass centre who has already been in touch with Toyota. They've asked for the complete VIN No so I'll give him that and the paint code in the morning. :)

Oh, and Sky (Ensign) do cover windscreen replacement - £60 excess though.

Popped into RAC Autoglass just now to let them take a look for themselves.

Apparently the tint I've got is green after all. He's got better eyes than me that's for sure... :)

Screen will be ordered up and should be here next week. Fingers crossed it doesn't take too long - that crack is growing daily. :(
