absolutely nothing wrong with that, its light and very rigid, its sealed under the fibreglass so will never rot or see the light of day again (unless he has a crash), second world war Mosquito (aircraft) was made largely of wood and could do 400 mph + and stands as one of the candidates for best aircraft of the war, do not underestimate the power of WOOD lol

I remember someone on here bought one of those cheap TRD kits, you could see right through it !

 

I personally would use something other than wood for reinforcement, like a few more layers of fibreglass or a kevlar fabric, may be even use part of the original metal part to sure it up.
