Holts plastic primer

I'm spraying some of the plastic in my engine bay and was using Halfords white plastic primer with good results. Unfortunately I drastically underestimated how much I would need and Halfords have now ran out. I bought some Holts plastic primer thinking it would be much the same but I've just sprayed the next panel and it's clear watery stuff that just runs instantly :( . Is this right?? The cap on the tin is white but the numbers on the cap and on the bottom of the tin match so it can't have the wrong top. I've also tried two tins and they're both the same. I've never come across clear primer before or any spray that's so runny.

the stuff we use is clear and like piss. also it has tiny little fleck in it so you can tell when its covered. Just bear that in mind when taking it back..

Maybe it's right enough then. Does painting a lighter colour (namely blue) come out ok on an originally black surface with it?
