Air CON Regassing?

Spoke to a regassing place today, who quoted £75 :( to regass a car (generic) where he would pump coloured gas?? to check for leaks, but said new cars would require one after 3 years (from new) and after this every year :blink: :(

 

Is this true? £75 pa leads me to belive a/c isn't worth it for the 12 times I have used it

some cars lose gas very quickly and may well require a regas every year. Fortunately the supra isnt this leaky, and should only require it every 3 or so years in experience. Of course if you dont use the system, then the seals dont get lubricated and they may perish and leak...

i work opposite an air-con place and he did mine with the colour stuff and all that for 70 quid cash so 75 is a good price. dont know bout the new car thing though, that certainly would'nt be worth it but damn man it gets hot in the suup in the summer and when your doin over a ton its better to have the air con on than the windows open:eyebrows:

Seems abit strange, The gas should last for years as long as there are no leaks and you use the aircon a few times a month.

MR T charged me 75 quid for a recharge and leak test. You can get it done by independant specialists that can come to your door for 35 - 50 quid. Apparantly the gas costs peanuts and its insurance and labour costs your paying for.

Actually Gaz he cost me a load of dough to sort it out, and wouldnt take responsibility to fix it.

 

So..............one wet day while he was having lunch I screwed all 4 of his tyre valves out, and had the pleasure of watching him get help and sort it. All four with a foot pump as it pissed down. Teach the dick not to mess with me lmao.

Think its about 0.76 kg from memory if you`ve lost all the gas !

Expertise, tools, adapters and labour will add between £30 to £60.

It`s not difficult but if a compressor seizes then it can be expensive, the 2 causes are

1) not enough gas ( the compressor is cooled by the gas returning so little or no gas means it gets very hot and EVENTUALLY seizes)

 

This is called SUCTION COOLING

 

2) too much gas and LIQUID will enter the compressor and wash all the oil away and cause it to seize.

 

So if I refill your system correctly and it seizes you will quickly blame the person but it is probally already damaged due to condition 1)

 

If someone puts too much in or puts it in too quickly you will get condition 2)
