J-Spec Supra - take to a toyota dealership for service?

Hi all,

Here's the score. Bought a Black J-spec Auto TT Supra on a 93 plate with mods as listed here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140006501925&sspagename=ADME%3AL%3ARTQ%3AUK%3A1&rd=1

Guy was a member of this forum and Supra is in very good condition.

However, I've heard a couple of noises recently - suggestions that could be crank pulley, tensioner belt or the like, but it only happens 1 in about 10 starts, for only a few secs.

Anyway, looking to get it properly checked and serviced. Suppose you have to pay the bucks to make it last right, and I LOVE this car with so much damn passion! Put aside around 800 quid to make sure I get this done properly. Has anyone had a good experience (or bad) with the Toyota dealership?

Any warranty offered after the service and how much is it normally gonna be?

Thanks guys and big love!

Greg;)

Heard about Chris. How much for a typical service? I've also heard from another member that he's not too keen on uprated non-stock parts - e.g. he slates them but fair point, the stocks a beauty.

He doesn't really slate them, just gives an honest and educated opinion which a lot of people don't want to hear, especially if they're being told they've wasted their money!

Best bet is to contact him either by phone (01948 841581) or at [email protected]

I've never used Chris for a service, but he's great to deal with and always very helpful on the phone.

Think I may well do that. He's probably really busy and I need these belts looking at asap though. Hmmm, nothings ever easy with imports!

Sheefa............relax a little. The belts will be fine for the time being and no real harm can come from their failure, just inconvenience.

Any local garage could get and fit a fan/auxillary belt in minutes. The cambelt i'd try and get done by someone knowledgable with supras to save any hassles with the crank pulley, but like i say the cambelt going (very unlikely in the short term) is not the disaster it is in a lot of cars......

Yes we can get you in next week for whatever is required. We can even pick the car up adn deliver it back for free on a trailer if you are having enough work sir.

Martin, when are you gonna pull your finger out and start a chain in the Midlands? ;)

Why the thread trim?

[edit] Oh - there wasn't a trim - I just thought this thread was this one http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=77542&highlight=whifbitz

What a merry go round!

Chris is fine with modified parts as long as there is a benefit to them. What he doesn't personally approve of (and I whole heartedly agree) is cheap parts, bolt on tat and stuff that isn't professionally designed/made.

He's a race bred pro that believes in doing things 100% properly. Give him a call, a typical service will vary a lot depending on what you have done. (cam belt, diff fluid, g/box fluid, coolant flush etc), He will always use all the proper fluids etc and I far far trust him more than Toyota to look after my baby!!
