Hi as some of you know I have been renovating a 205GTI, 1.6, 89G, 80,000 genuine miles.

Last week, I was going to get my MOT done, when the car just died on me and refused to start again! after about 10-15 minutes the car started and I continued to drive, where the car dies again!
It always seems to be when it comes to operating temperature.

Oil pressure is good, plenty of clean oil in the sump, new filter and plugs, checked most of the connections are intact.

Has anyonegot any ideas of how I can remedy this problem.

Oh I was told that the fuel pump relay can cause stalling, so I replaced with a brand-new one, also replaced the fuel pump with a working one out of another car, I tested it before fitting and it was fine..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

check for any cracks in the inlet manifold there prone to this and it messes with the air fuel mixture.
check the distributor too for cracks and wear in the cap!!!

Not that it's any help but my g/fs 205 1.1 had a similar problem just before it got sold, drive 40 odd mile and then it would just cut out and wouldnt start till it cooled a bit.
Good luck with the fault finding, we never got to find out what it was.
