with fuel prices surging again, are there any ways to make the car a little more fuel friendly but without taking away performance?

Ive got all my mileage records for nearly six years of MkIV ownership. Just for you, Ive cross-matched and correlated the interlaced figures between my worst (12mpg) and best (32mpg). I can give you the following conclusions....

If I travel long distance at a high constant speed, my mpg is better than when I travel short distances at low speed, but I spend more on petrol.

Mpg drops alarmingly immediately after an argument with the wife.

The amount I spend on Supra petrol drops dramatically when Im in Florida.

Hope this helps:)

Apparently there's a way of not using any fuel!

Just roll it in neutral on the downhill bits, and get out and push it on the uphill bits. Of course, you would have to make your own engine noises.

You shouldn't roll it down hill in neutral as this will use fuel as the engine has to idle.

Keep it in gear and it shuts down the fueling until it's needed again.

Keep it off-boost as long as you can. You can get 30mpg in the summer, especially if your tyres are at the right pressures and you keep the windows shut.

As said, fill it up at night, when the fuel is denser (you get more fuel mass for the same £££)

Am i right in saying using th A/C at lower speeds (town driving)is less fuel efficent than opening the window at higher speeds ( motorway)?

Basically your better off opening the window in town than using the A/C? or is it the other way round?
