Hi Jarrett
I'm trying to figure out if the (T60?) turbo in the PHR Stage One kit is OK at 1.8bar on UK fuel.
Do you have a copy of the compressor map for this turbo I could see please?

Do you have an opinion about the suitability of this turbo for use with the UK's relatively poor octane pump fuel?

Thanks for any help.

Jake, i've just done a quick search in the PHR section on supraforums and Jarrett says that he does not give out the compressor maps for these turbos

Oh! Well that's a big minus point against PHR in my book then. I wonder what he's trying to hide?

Didn't used to work at Tuning Japanese did he? :)

Thanks Lee

No Jake. It won't be ok on UK fuel at 1.8 bar.

1.4bar will probably be your limit (and that might be pushing it) with your setup but Paul Whiffin will no doubt help shed some light on this for you.

Can you name one turbo combination for the 2JZ that will run 1.8bar (26.5psi !!) on pump fuel with stock compression? I doubt it.

None...well some think they can...then the engine goes bang.

This all depends on the engine CR and timing retardation. See the other thread

Sorry, we dont give out any compressor maps to the public for any of our turbochargers. No, we have nothing to hide, we are trying to keep at least one item of our product line from being copied and sold on Ebay for $100. Our compressor designs are proprietary and highly secret, because it took us 6 years of full-time racing to figure out what works and what works well on this particular engine. No offense to anyone, but most laymen would have no idea what anything meant by looking at a compressor map anyhow. Compressor maps dont tell you anything about spool response on a particular setup, torque range, or anything. But they can be a road-map to copy a particular setup. So if this is a "knock" against PHR, then so be it. I plan to be around for much longer than anyone else in this industry and if I have to keep some secrets then I do what I must. Thats as honest as I can be mate.

To answer your other question, I dont know ANY turbo setup for the Supra that can run 1.8 BAR on pump fuel. Especially the UK pump fuel which can vary from 90 to 94 octane (US equivalent). The most we are comfortable running on the 2JZ is about 1.2 BAR. Even with a Motec M600 and timing retard, the most I've ever run is 1.5 BAR on 95 octane. And to be honest, thats pushing it for a street driven and street fueled car. But you have to ask yourself, if 1.3 BAR equals over 500 wheel HP (600+ BHP) is there really a need for this on the street? I mean, even on our great concrete US roads, we are lucky to hook up 500 WHP on street tires. Unless your like some guys who race from 150 MPH + making 1000 WHP. To me, thats no true street race though.

Thanks
JH

sounds like a nice bit of advice from Jarrett, thanks , as I'm sure the PHR followers will take heed of this.
Must admit, running circa 500hp is pretty difficult to put down, so I'm happy to keep a reliable figure :) :)

Only problem is, people reading this will be able to guess the power we're running - so the pub talk goes out the window! - Still, when you've got it you don't really care what others think :p :p

My own car is aiming to be the ultimate street killer - 550DIN only.

i think power is nothing without low down grunt and traction, after going single i would say the ultimate street killer would be a BPU JDM ceramic stock twin, mine had zero lag and was feckin awesome puling out of junctions and general naughtyness around town, dont get me wrong i wouldn't go back but i think it demonstrates in real world situations smaller can definately be better
