Painting polished rim

Well do they have paint on them already ? and they have kerb marks dont they ?

So take it back down to bare metal, fill in the kerb marks. Then do the painting stage.

Primer, paint, clear, etc.

Just my thoughts, i am sure merckx' way is probably easier and less time consuming.
