PHR stage 2 vs BL T67 stage 2

This is a discussion regarding the non DBB as the extra cost is out of my budget, plus mines a 6 speed.

So here are the questions, assuming both will have the same fueling as theyre pretty much similar sized units.

Build quality?

Low down boost?

Power attainable with supporting Mods.?

pros and cons?

Which one would you have?

Edit, Just been reading on the US forum, PHR and BL are both well rated, but the general consensous on the forum is the the PHR kits are over priced and have a weaker manifold than the BL Kit.

Yes the PHR kit use a GEnuine HKS manifold. We have supplied 4 PHR kits and the quality is outstanding.

We have also supplied the BL kit.

If you are looking for a difference, you just simply wotn feel on on the road. They are both VERY VERY good kits and do pretty much the same job.

My advice - If you want the very best and your a lable Biach - PHR. If you want the same kit, but dotn mind a kock off manifold - BL.

You've already mentioned you have a budget. I would go BL everytime as its about £1500 cheaper for a full kit. Or are you just talking about the turbo? in which case it would still be BL for the same reason

With DBB its not just the turbo unit that incurs the extra £ but also the extra oil feeds etc i think...may be worng though.

its the extra coolant lines that you have to add which IMO are not that expensive.

I was advised that it would incur quite a bit more £....mmm will have to look into this again.

PHR come with Oil lines as does BL. NO Water lines for DBB are given as each install can be differetn but PHR do supply the Water fixings in their kit.

Martin so the BL T67 DBB kit has everything that is needed for the install minus the water lines?, Is the DBB more labour intesive than the non DBB?

Yes a bit more labour and fidley but well worth the effort.

No water lines in BL either.

You just need to choose between PHR and BL. I'd be happy with either. I would have chosen BL but I ended up buying a car that already had a PHR stage one kit fitted and it seems like good stuff. I really like the way the IC hard pipe doesn't go through the wing.

Can't go wrong with either PHR or BL I reckon.

Yes but woudl have to use a different manifold from BL. Basically Stage 2-3 if memory serves.

50mm is ample, there is no need to go larger for a 67mm turbo

I would be going for the Stage 2 set up if i went BL, Martin the bigger the wastegate the more boost that can be controlled?

The PHR is around them same size as the BL, then why does that have a bigger wastegate, sorry about the million and one questions Lee and Martin, just wanna get my head round all this.

Yes but as Lee said you cant safley make enough boost on stage 2 to overwhelm the 50mm.

So why is the DBB not recommended for manuals?

It is recomended, who said it isnt?

I think i heard terry say that the dbb is good on manuals but makes no difference on auto's.... i might be wrong but im sure terry will be along soon:)

The only bad press i have heard about the DBB is that the turbo is still spinning after the engine is turned off for around a few miuntes with no oil, thus DBB will fail quicker than non DBB but the gains outweigh the cons.

I thought the whole point about the DBB was being able to spool faster, so it would make more of a difference on an auto I'd have thought.

(Edit - more difference to drivability.)
