is this not something that you could buy in PC world scott? I bought an old laptop just for mapping, cost £70 with serial port:D

yeah i bought one and it didn't work. although i know PHR have found converters that were successful

We do have a basic Serial/USB converter, no flow control. It sells for $30 USD, the shipping to UK probably costs more. Honestly the best way to do it is to use a PCMCIA card with serial port, thats a rock solid way to use a serial port, but they cost about $80 US.
