how can you say if it will be easily removed or not? perhaps any accident you have may make it 'un-removable'?

better off declaring EVERYTHING! Any insurance company won't need to be given a second invitation to refuse paying out.

true true, what annoys me is that elephant ask for mods then whack up the price but dont even cover the mods! so i say quote as fewer mods as possible. If you were with a decent insurer like Sky etc. then i'd say quote everything you have.

Just declare "basic engine mods" as a generalisation. They don't care what they are specifically, merely that power mods exist, and the kind of power boost they give all together.

I seriously didn't know if there were or not, if they are then why sell them or am I just being thick?

They are illegal because cars later than 92' need to pass higher emissions standards and because the law says so! Hence why you won't pass an MOT without them.

If you get caught decatted you may just get a defect form and need to get the cats fitted again and have it inspected by an MOT tester.

Otherwise I reckon a fixed penalty notice as well as the above.

Their "illegal" because a car that is decatted (after 92) will normally fail its MOT on emissions so thus technically speaking a car that will not pass an MOT is not roadworthy. I think thats right anyway. (of course everyone gets round this by having the car MOT'd with cats in then taking them out afterwards)

And i guess there could also be problems with the car being too loud for the road with certain exhausts once decatted.

If your car is worth 8k, you declare it as 8k, and market value is in their books 6.5k. Youll get 6.5k if you crash. So basically by saying your car is worth 15k, will make your premium go up, and not affect any re-imbursal of money if you crash..

So what the hell is up with that. Shouldnt I just say my car is worth 6.5k?

Thats exactly what i just had to do with very good results. They would repair my car up to 11k worth of damage:)

A decat is not, in and of itself, illegal. Failing the emission limits is, which obviously becomes much more likely when you've decatted.

However, a Supra is borderline on emissions even when decatted - once emission tested my old one when decatted, and it passed 2 of the 3 tests, and only narrowly failed the third.
