TO REDUCE THE GAP IN MY SPARKS TO WHAT...?

ok so reducing the gap will prevent the current problem near my max 1 bar which is causing the car to loose power momentarily, not fuel cut, more a drrrrrrrrrrr, noise and slight power loss only on heavy application of the accelerator.

So - great advise from Dudersvr and others. What gap then ?

Who's the clever techi that would know this !>?

Try 18 thou inch, less than that and the idle may go to pot or worse. The correct plugs at 25 thou should be OK though. I keep special race NGK ones in stock that I KNOW work up to 1.4 bar without a problem.

No techi, but I did find this at........

http://www.mkiv.com/faq/faqtt.html

5. the engine misses at high boost.
try re-gapping original plugs or new plugs at .026"-.035". start high and work your way down until it stops missing.

I have gapped mine all the way down but I still miss when I really go for it.
I'm pretty sure it's my coil packs though...........

I think 30-35 thou for a BPU car was mentioned in the previous threads...

Oh well, beaten by someone who knows what they're talking about !
It still may be of help, I guess............

18 thou eh ?
I'll have to try that little extra bit..........

What is this worse that you speak of ?

That's the absolute minimum, the spark at 18 thou will be present, but may not initiate the burn, especially at idle, well enough. A crutch, for sure.

Mate I had exactly the same problem when I upped my boost.

To fix it I bought and fitted 6 x NGK Laser Platinum spark plugs (PFR7B 4853)

Problem went away and car goes like stink now without blowing rasberries under high throttle. :flame Dev

I got mine from Chris Wilson above.

I really don't know whether to spend 100 squid on some super plugs, or put the money towards my coil packs.
I'm only running 1 bar so am I putting off the inevitable ?
I guess the plugs have to be worth a go........:)

:)

Good feedback cheers.

I will try the plugs. Chris drop me a mail and let me know what the cost is. I'll also take a look at dropping to 18 thou pre purchase.

Not being technical - both the expensive race and standard new'ish toyota are gonna be the same'ish in working hard at 1 bar - is this really all down to the gap or will the race plugs as stated make this all go away!?

now I'm confused as to what makes the difference. Feel a mid'life commin on. PS: Screw new coil packs £!
