help auto gear nob

just got a new oem gear shift and cant work out how to get the o/d button off without cutting the two wires and the selector button is proving hard to get out dont wanna break anything. done a search but not much help .anyone done one before??????

The wires for the o/d switch run down the shift lever into a multiplug at the front of the lever on the transmission tunnel. You need to remove the surround and the centre console, then unplug the wires (one of two multiplugs, cant remember which one) then carefully feed the wire around the linkages, cutting off the cable ties as you go. The multiplug just fits between the two halfs of the mounting plate, but you have to jiggle it a bit. Its a PITA job to be honest.
