i want to get a new timing belt.how much is the belt?and for fitting?could i do it myself

Less than £30

Depends on how competent you are , if you haven't done much work on cars then get someone else to do it.

If you get a garage to do it, don't let them use heat to remove the crank pulley!

I have just had mine done on my NA mate at Toyota. They were charging£250 all in at my local dealer. Only problem I had was that the crank pulley bolt was siezed so they had to remove the gearbox to lock the flywheel up properly to undo it. That was extra money though.

Genuine belts are around the £30 mark and Non-Gen are about £20. For the extra £10 I would get genuine everytime.

Read this mate if you think you can do it. Not an easy job for non technical types but its not that bad with a bit of common sense and the right tools. Not as much to remove on the NA as there is on the TT, but its similar.

It looks hard, but isn't. The only 'hard' bit is the crank pulley. Done mine recently (first timing belt ever!) and it was pretty straight forward. You just need a five faced socket for the pulley bolt so it doesn't slip, a long extension bar and a mallet to shock the bar whilst pressure is on it. They are always tight, but will go. Save yourself some money and do it yourself
