Looking to sell the Supe soon and have been looking at all the examples on the market.

 

What the feck is going on? We've TT's from as little as £5k to over £15k, with as little as 4 years between them!

 

I thought I'd sussed what I was going to ask for mine, based on the fact that values had fallen (was playing with the idea of £7800-£8200), but with the wide range of prices for virtually identical cars I'm just at a loss.

 

What is it that's causing the wide range in values? Is it just because the market has slumped and no-one really knows how to value them anymore?

there will be a price bracket that you should be aiming for but it's not just a case of age any more. you've got to take into account mileage, condition, mods etc.

N-reg JDM Auto TT RZ-S

55k miles

Completely standard, not even an aftermarket air filter

Pioneer AV headunit & inifinity audio

Factory fitted LSD, 4 pots and 17"s

 

I was going to pitch it at £8000 ono, but then you see 1993-94 high mile jap autos for as little as £5-5.5k, but you also see cars at the other end, £8-9k. My realistic figure has dropped significantly, but you then see something that has sold and say to yourself "Nah, mine has got to be worth more than that.. surely?".

 

I need to sell the car in order to fund my next purchase (has the letters R, T & V, and resembles the name of big, bad dog!), so I don't want to have it sitting around forever, but nor do I want to let it go for next to nothing like some of the cheapies are doing.

 

One of the problems I see is that these cars are still making good money from dealers - I often see later pre-facelift cars like mine selling for £9-£10k on the forecourt.

 

Perhaps it's a combination of the influx of earlier SVA-exempt examples and the (artificially IMO) low values in the trade guides.

sounds like a nice clean car, decent mileage but for an auto you're probably better off looking at pitching it in at £7k rather than £8k i'm afraid.

that said, it's all about whether you HAVE to sell and also about what you're willing to take for it. If the right buyer came along you may get a bit more for it but the market is through the floor at the moment and there are cars such as the green facelift up for sale on the forum for £9k with a red TT6 with the same mileage as yours just gone on for £8500!

Yeah, I look at the prices of the 94-96 TT's and then see what people are wanting (and paying!!) for Rev3/4 MR2 Turbos of the same age and think it's all gone pete tong!

Still looking, but there are a couple on Pistonheads right now that I've taken a fancy to; both 4.5 AJP8's, one a 1998 R, the other a 1999 T. Can't quite stretch to the 1999/2000 facelift lightweight models with the funky xenon lights.

The 1998 has only clocked 19k and is in moonraker black, the other is in metallic purple, has had a new engine fitted from the factory, emerald ecu, tracker, stainless cans, a load of new suspension kit and clutch and is apparently dynoed at 391bhp on 26k miles.

On the surface either one looks OK.

 

I'd be careful of ones that are too modded, but with the spec of my Griff, I'm a fine one to talk :)

 

I'm sure everyone has already beaten into you, look at lots, and buy on condition ;)

 

Budget around £3k a year for running costs and hopefully you shouldn't go far wrong.

 

Just remember they're nothing like as bullet proof as the Supra, so expect things to go wrong, sometimes catastrophically.

If you can honestly live with the thought that you may spend more time working on it than driving it, then buy one and have fun.

If you're just hoping that you'll be lucky and get a good one that just goes on and on without ever spending time and/or money on it, regardless of whats been done previously, then I'd seriously consider what I really wanted out of a car before I parted with the money.

 

Is this going to be a daily driver, or fun/weekends only?

I've other cars that I can use day to day (mk1 escort and a mk1 mr2 with the 3sgte turbo), though I may sell one of them to further finance the cerb and pick up a £1500-2000 cheap runabout for weekday commuting. It certainly won't get wrapped up in the garage and not used though - I'm figuring on running it an average of 2 days a week though it will probably be more during this type of weather. Looking at about 6k miles a year really.

 

Decided to go for the AJP V8 engine Cerb as opposed to the Speed Six cars and the T350 (my favourite looking TVR and the one I would otherwise have gone for) based on the absolutely terrifying engine failure record. The V8 certainly isn't as bulletproof as your RV8 engine, but it's a damn sight more reliable than the Six.

 

Main problems with the Cerb, as far as I can gather are:

Starter motors

Clutch & Clutch master/slave cylinders

Coils & throttle pots

 

I can live with them, but not engine rebuilds at 20k :(

I wouldn't say I felt my RV8 was bulletproof. It always feels rather fragile compared to the Supra. I tend to liken it to a manic genius, mentally balanced on a knife edge and intent on suicide :)

 

If the Supra blows up, I'll be surprised. When the Griff does, I'll just buy another engine :( Saying all that though, the 5.2 JE engine in my Griff, feels far more bulletproof than the std TVR 5.0 one :D

 

 

Most people I know, or know of, with Cerberas, don't seem to have too many problems.

Ridiculously my main gripe with them is the sound. The flate plane AJP engine just doesn't have the burble of the RV8, although the pops and bangs on the overrun are a joy to behold :)

 

I can't ever see me buying a car with a SpeedSix engine in it :bang:

Apparantly you can fit a small block Chevy into the T body cars (Tuscan, T350 etc). TBH its the only way I could ever see me owning one, which is a shame because they're lovely looking cars.

Ok folks... car is going up for sale - based on what people have said, and the other cars selling recently I'm going to ask £7295; which I think is a reasonable price for both me as the seller, and for a buyer looking to pick up a good quality example.
