After last years success are we planning to hold a similar event this year. Details are below:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/japworcs/GumballTitle.gif

The route has been confirmed, its length is very slightly over 150miles, estimated at just over 4 hours 30 mins driving. The start location is the Quorn Grand Central Railway Car Park in Quorndon, just outside Leceister - meeting time is anytime after 8am. The gumball WILL begin and DEPART at 9am sharp! So please be prompt.

A pack will be issued to each vehicle along with emergency contact numbers just in case, please bring radios/sat nav if you wish, included in the pack will be a questionnaire to be completed en-route there will be a prize for the most correct answers.

We will be stopping in Shrewsbury for lunch at around 12:00, venue to be confirmed, however departure will be 1:30pm sharp.

The finish point is on the A449 between Kidderminster and Worcester, near the Mitre Oak, at Glyn's new property which has amble room for parking. Post Code and exact location will be confirmed by Monday 28th Aug for those wishing to attend the finale.

The Route:

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/japworcs/Gumball.jpg

The START IS :

Woodhouse Road
Quorn
Leicestershire
LE12 8AL
MAP:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.sr...=newsearch.srf

To make things slightly more interesting, each vehicle will be issued with a series of tasks to be completed along route, points will be awarded for each successfully completed task. The car with the highest number of points at the end of the day will win a special prize.

The Lunch:

The Pound at Leebotwood.
Leebotwood,
Nr Church Stretton,
Shropshire,
SY6 6ND.
www.thepound.org.uk

Lunch will be between 12:00 and 13:30, we have the pub completely to ourselves! There are 50+ parking spaces in the car park. Due to the number of us they have had to limit the menu, so I have had to make an executive decision on the choice of menu. :) However they have provided a nice group discount.

Below is the menu, however I will provide you all with a copy on the morning in your pack.

The Menu

Fillet of Cod, lightly battered and served with mushy peas and hand cut chips
Home made 8oz burger topped with bacon and cheese in a bap with coleslaw and hand cut chips
Sirloin steak 8oz with hand cut chips and a tomato and red onion salad
Home cooked ham (cold) with free range fried egg and hand cut chips
Fennel and sundried tomato Risotto (v)
Neals Yard Goats Cheese lightly grilled on a crute with salad of caramalised red onion, toasted pine nuts, rocket with balsamic dressing.

This menu is normally £9.95, however we have negotiated each dish to be £7.50 with a £2.50 supplement for the steak.

The Finish

Estimated time of arrival at the completion point is around 3:30/4pm, upon arrival at the finish point there will be a BBQ for all, with the chance for any last photo's, prize's will be awarded and we are working on providing some entertainment for young and old ;) If the weather does turn, the BBQ will be on hold and the local Mitre Oak provides very good food and some fine ales. Glyn has very kindly offered to be host for the duration of the afternoon/evening. Glyn is offering all gumballers, the ability to Camp over in his acres of land if you wish. The Travelodge just down the road is now FULLY BOOKED.

As you are all aware the event is completely free and being organised by the members for all members of mkviSupra.net. Afreemason(Glyn) & Motley have very kindly offered to host us all for the afternoon/evening. However as you can appreciate buying enough burgers and hotdogs for 100+ people will prove to be a little expensive, so perhaps if we all put a fiver in the kitty we can cover this cost and ensure everyone has a good time. I will try to get round you all during the BBQ if thats ok.

So if its not already, put Saturday September 2nd in your diary!

Hope to see you all there.

Hope it does happen, I'm think Martin mentioned it the other day but now he's a dad he may be a little busy. I'm sure we could all chip in to help him out, he did a great job last year :d

My suggestion would be maybe hire a function room at a pub for a night party and hand out the prizes for best car etc.. instead of at lunchtime like last year. I never did get a prize for coming first :(

Ian R

We were looking at the possibility of linking the Gumball in with the meet that Ed is trying to organise. Be worth getting some input from Afreemason (glynn) as he helped organise it with Martin and myself last year and the 350z's joined us as well

yep, I'm up for this, and like Ian said i'm STILL trying to organise the Quorn GSRW station yard as a base location.

HOWEVER!!, even without permission we could still use the station as a start/finish point (like the pub yard on the 1st Gumball).
Just turn up on the day.

If I do manage to negotiate permission we would be able to use the yard for BBQs etc,.. and parking for the local pub.
If needed, I could also hire the local villege hall at discounted rates ;)

Great idea for prizes. I should be able to get trophies made up for it and the club will support us with this through club funds.
It also have access to the bunting and club signs that we use at JAE so if we have a finish point (Eds location) I can set up a marquee bbq and we can issue prizes at the end of the Gumball people can the head back to where they live in convoys after this.
Suggestions would be for prizes:

Best Supra
Best 350z
(any other suggestions)

it would also be a good idea to inform the local authorites exactly what we are doing.

Steve you need to edit calander entry so that we can allow people to add themselves to the event in the calender link matey.

Once we have decided exactly what we are doing I will prune the thread and leave the main points in it :)

So, we just need to decide upon venue's and then we can arrange a route!

Hi guys ........

F**king fantastic ....... I'm up for this one again !!!!!!!

It would be good if we could avoid any of the Jap car meets as I think we clashed with one last year but it was still a great blast :eyebrows:

To add a bit of spice we could look at doing it proper gumball style ....... with five of six check points to blast round with the directions or just map ref to the next point to be collected !!!!!! Might take a bit of planning and would need someone manning check points but I don't mind doing some of that !!!!!!

Cracking idea guys ..... count me in !!!!!!

Great - glad your up for this. Hope we can expect the 350's along again then! I have knocked up a possible route/map according to Ian's suggestion. I'll aim to post this up later today.

Liking the orientering (sp?) idea... have to think about that one.

I think the dates are ok? I checked in our calendar and its free, but i'll do some more investigation to confirm. :)

No probs - a meet sounds like a good idea, get some plans in order.

Some thoughts I had:

Tried to follow Ians suggestion starting from worcester way ending up over Ed's area in Leicester. Thought about going round the north of the midlands this time? What does everyone think? This is only a starting point. Distance is 150 miles, estimated 4 hours to complete.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/japworcs/map-1.jpg

What about making this an over nighter? Perhaps arrange to meet up the night before or on the saturday night travel lodge/inn few beers and a meal?

Hey Ed - Either sound good to me, but probably the finishing point. As for time, not sure yet. Are you able to meet up Friday or maybe some other time? I'd like to get everyone's input on a route, stop off points, times etc.

I think we should make this an over nighter too, enjoy the social scene on arrival at our destination. What does everyone think? Currently looking at hotels, are you able to recommend any Ed?

Just incase I’m stuck at work or at a exhibition hall for this pre-event event on friday I would like to highlight some of my points:

Firstly, I really apologize for dragging my feet on the Station venue confirmation.
To be honest, I’m disappointed with the communication regarding the station management.
I’ve written two letters and spoken to a few people and although they seem enthusiastic they seem to be relutant to confirm available date and times.

My view is we should just decide a weekend and just turn up on the day (AM) un-announced.
As I can’t guarantee availability it would be best to use QUORN GSRW Station yard as a START point in the morning so we would have left before the public arrive and then finish the Gumball elsewhere.

The gates are unlocked around 9:00am so 9:30 / 10:00am would seem a good time to start.

I’ve asked the local pub and we could use their car park as a back-up option if needed.

----------

other ideas:

Could we have a route before the event so people with TOM TOM units can re-program the directions and less fortunate individuals like myself can memorized the route beforehand on the A ot Z maps.

I guess 100 - 150 miles,... as anymore would get expensive with fuel.

A 1/2 way point (Like the pub before) would be great for a meet-up, food and rest but with a pre-arranged arrival and departure time so stragglers are not left behind and food can be ordered.

thats it,... ideas guys?

afreemason

I've an idea on the prospect of an over night stay for those who are interested and have a tent.

Sorry about the delay, some good points Ed, all taken into account. I have been talking to a colleague and he has been telling me all about the MSA, so some interesting thoughts for Fridays meeting.

Dont want to seem like im taking control, but I have compiled a small agenda for tomorrow, please bring all your thoughts with you. I will be armed with Maps, Laptop with route planning software to help.

Aims for tomorrow:

> ideally walk away with a route or rough guidelines for a route in place.
> starting location
> meeting time and departing time

Hi All,

Firstly I'd like to thank, Burna, Jo, Glyn, Simon and Dave for meeting up last Friday to discuss our plans for the gumball. It was definately worth while, thanks for your help

The results are as follows:

The route has been confirmed, its length is very slightly over 150miles, estimated at just over 4 hours 30 mins driving. The start location is the Grand Central Railway Car Park in Leceister - meeting time is anytime after 8am. The gumball WILL begin and DEPART at 9am sharp! So please be prompt. Route maps will be issued to each vehicle along with emergency contact numbers just in case, please bring radios/sat nav if you wish.

We will be stopping in Shrewsbury for lunch at around 11:30, venue to be confirmed, however departure will be 1pm sharp.

The finish point is on the A449 between Kidderminster and Worcester, near the Mitre Oak, at Glyn's new property which has amble room for parking.

The *rough* Route

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b104/japworcs/Gumball.jpg

To make things slightly more interesting, each vehicle will be issued with a series of tasks to be completed along route, points will be awarded for each successfully completed task. The car with the highest number of points at the end of the day will win a special prize.

Glyn is offering all gumballers, the ability to Camp over in his acres of land if you wish, otherwise there is a Travelodge a stones throw away on the A449.

I will post more details very shortly.

So if its not already, put Saturday September 2nd in your diary!

Hello all you lovely lovely Supra owners:nana:

Burna PM'd me over on www.japworcs.co.uk about some people requiring tunes. I'd dunno if y'all will like my stuff as its:

1.) Limited (only just started really)
2.) Quite new and funky, y'all might prefer more mainstream stuff - i dunno

I'm pretty sure i'm available on the date, but i dont think i'll be on the gumball this year!

Hiya Chap ...... there's an arguement to say if you bring the equipment I'm sure there'll be sufficient people prepared to suppliment your CD collection for the night ....... I presume cd's will do it rather than those vinyl thingies of my youth ???????

Well, false alarm really, sorry chaps, until STE7E pointed it out to me, i had forgotten about Trax and as i'm staying the night previous i wouldn't be able to do it anyway.

No more rooms available according to their website. Next closest is the M5 Frankwell.

Great news Voo! :D Looking forward to seeing your car :)

Camping will be at Afreemasons' house, Glyn has very kindly offered everyone the option for people to camp on his field (where the BBQ and finish point is). I'll be meeting up with Glyn this weekend to finalise plans and post up the final details, just get your tent ready to chuck in the boot :D

Sorry, I have been away from my PC for the last few days, to answer any questions...

:lazy: :lazy: :lazy: :lazy: ... eh? Piss up...... few beers ....... where were that again ???

There is a BBQ at Afreemason's(Glyn's) House at the end of the day, Many people have booked into the hotel or are camping at Glyn's house, so we can enjoy the rest of the evening :) Obviously this is weather permitting, so if raining, we will be retreating to the Mitre Oak.

Do we have to pay to enter?!

No fee, its all free! :) There may be a small charge for a Burger or Hotdog, just to cover costs, but otherwise completely free! I will confirm the food issue by next weekend.

* First page updated with latest details. *

As you are all aware the event is completely free and being organised by the members for all members of mkviSupra.net. Afreemason(Glyn) & Motley have very kindly offered to host us all for the afternoon/evening. However as you can appreciate buying enough burgers and hotdogs for 100+ people will prove to be a little expensive, so perhaps if we all put a couple of pound in the kitty we can cover this cost and ensure everyone has a good time. I will try to get round you all during the BBQ if thats ok. Unless anyone else has any suggestions?

The Lunchtime Venue has been confirmed.

The pub is on route on the A49 just after Shrewsbury, so drive carefully! Yesterday there were also a couple of police speed cameras, so please please please be sensible in the villages

Just a matter of days now!! :eyebrows:

Hi guys ...... just a quick organisational announcement regarding Saturday's activities:

Firstly, we are trying to do this whole thing as a Gumball and you will be given a set of instructions and a few basic tasks to complete en route to prove that you've been where you're supposed to have been !!!!!! So, it would be nice if you could all try and be on time in order to receive your instruction packs !!!!!

This has been done because there is absolutely no way we will manage to keep a convoy of 40+ cars together ..... last year proved that ..... so everyone should be ready to use a map or say nav or both ...... failing that try phone a friend !!!!!

For reference my number is 07966 428 067 !!!!!!!!

The plan is to meet up with a view to making a move at 9am from Quorn Great Central RailWay station here :http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=1000925&postcount=208 or visit http://www.gcrailway.co.uk/

We should be have a brief break for any late starters to catch up at the Holiday Inn Burton-upon-trent, off wellington Road, Branston, DE14 3 (opposite mcd's) at 10 am leaving at 10.30 ish ....... however late starters may well receive a points penalty !!!!

Lunch will be at Leebotwood just outside shrewsbury from 12 to 1.30 here http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=999652&postcount=202

From there you'll be heading be some convoluted route back to mine & Motley's where a bbq will await ....... we're guessing you should be there about 4 ish. As I've already spent my hard earned pennies n a shit load of burgers for you ..... in true British style we're bbq'ing whatever the weather ...... we'd appreciate your support though !!!!!!

A few things you should bring :

Map or Sat Nav
A mobile phone
A fold up chair if you have one
Some tinnies or a bottle of wine if you want a booze up

I would also make a personal plea .........

If anyone has a gazeebo ..... any chance of dropping it round on Friday night so we don't get too wet

If anyone has a decent portable stero with CD player ...... if you bring it we can have some tunes too !!!!!!!!

please please please can we have a couple of volunteers for this one !!!!!!!!!

Any chance of a list of postcodes of where we're going? (most importantly the finish postcode!) I'm only asking cos my other half isn't the best map reader so I need to get routes sorted on the satnav ;)

Pete
31-08-06, 21:58
..and don't forget your donations for the bbq! (Think we agreed a fiver per head?)

Unfortunately I have been held away with work all week. But back now, after breaking down in my beater van on the M25! :D

Thanks Glyn! I have 1 gazeebo I will bring with me to the railway station, just incase. Any others got one to bring?

Just to reinforce - bring your phones, sat nav, maps, beer, a pen! and something to sit on at the BBQ.

And yep Pete, £5 a head for each at the BBQ. :)

On the hand-outs I will give you all the postcodes you need, just in-case. ;)

I've looked into my crystal ball and the weather forecast is amazing! So i'll look forward to seeing you all there! :D

Steve and Afreemason, I will be coming up on the morn and can bring a large 30ft gazebo if needed and a pretty good portable stereo as long as there's power for it as it drains batts within about 3 hours!

Do you want me to bring any additional food guys? I'll get on the case with some booze too. Think my sup will be more like a humvee/HGV by the time i've stocked up! Plus I've got 2 passengers, one a lanky git and the other one his small missus.

Let me know if you want me to bring the above. Cheers, ;)

Hi Sheefa,

You life saver mate ..... gazeebo and steroe will be more than welcome, power won't be an issue either. ...... and any booze you care to bring along will just add to the communal warmth !!!!!! Food I think we're sorted for, I've just got to pop out and get some bread rolls.
