Twin turbo imports newer than 1996

Has anyone got experience of importing a newer than 1996 twin turbo? I'm getting mixed information from importers and SVA Test Centres - some say you only need an MOT for cars older than 10 years old and that you need an SVA and Model Report test for those younger than 1996 before getting an MOT, but a couple have said you can "get away" with just an SVA and no Model Report for cars up to 1998. However no one in authority is willing to put anything in writing or show me anything official in type. There seems to be a two year window (1996-1998) where there is confusion. There only appears to be a Model Report for the non-turbo Supra - unless anyone knows any different!!

You only need a model report on a vehicle for 97on cars, unfortunately there isn't one available for the Supra TT and from what I can gather there never will be. Anything over 10 years old doesn't need an SVA test, anything under 10 years old does, so you can SVA a December 1996 Supra if needed but it does need to be more or less std or converted to more or less std to get through the SVA test. Hope that helps.

Cheers

If i am correctly informed, you can sometimes obtain a COC document from japan which makes cars under 10 years old exempt from an sva or requiring a model report.

Alternativly instead of gettin a model report, find someone with a standard TT and have it tested against it!..... so im told! mine is a 95 so no problems!:D

I'm wanting to import a facelift TT with Vtec engine and auto Triptronic box as I'm now an old bloke of a grandad. I believe these came out in 1997 onwards, so looks like I'm going to have to wait awhile before the 10 year rule lapses. What's this COC report? Anyone know what it is and how to make sure the car has one before exporting it to the UK?

If you find a vtec engine in a toyota then the SVA would be the last of your worries
