View Full Version : 6x9s in rear quarters.
Has anyone fitted these in the rear quarters. I dont want to just put them behind the satadard speaker grille. I want to use the correct grilles for the speakers.
I know im going to have to make an MDF plate to mount the speakers too.
Have anyone got any pics of them installed or plate diagrams etc.
I have a pair of 8" subs in mine - had to make up MDF plates, remove some of the original metal mounts and still need to re-fit the grills :)

that looks canny good
Needs some tidying up still before I refit the grills but it all sounds the biz now :) :)
Just seen this and i was thinking the same, except i was wanting to directly replace the original ones with my kenwood 6x9s!
Will they fit?
They wont fit mate. You have to make some pods to mount the speakers in and replace the OEM speaker cover with the pod. Ive made 2 sets of pods now for friends with supras and fitted them. If you get the fit right they look factory fit.
dont bother with 6x9's
Get a nice set of components for the back :D
I would of liked the 6x9s but if not what components should i go for?

I bought some pioneer 6x9s but I found them too deep and wide for the space where the stock speakers were. The only way I could have fitted them in was by making the space a lot bigger. (The 6x9's are now for sale)
Its pioneer 6x9s ive got too,so i guess there not going to fit:(
6x9's aren't the best choice to be honest, way too much work to fit and they won't sound as nice as even a cheapy component or even coaxial unit.

What component should i go for gaz and will it still be as bassy as a 6x9?

To be honest I would personally spend all my money on decent components for the front doors, the rear speakers are just for fill and its not like you can hear them much anyway. I just have a decent co-axial 2 way speaker set in the back. Save your money and spend it on speakers for the doors. If you want some bass to your system but dont want to go down the sub in the boot route, then you can get mid bass drivers in a 17cm size for the rear, or even small subs. Just remember to get the best out of component speakers or any speakers really its best to run them from an amp.
be fitted some 8" speakers and various 6x9s in supras rear quarters by making speaker pods and if I do say so myself they do look factory fit if you get it a nice tight fit.
I hear what your saying though about them not being the best choice for the rears. I'd say components are the way forwards.

I'm by no means an audio expert nowadays, back 15 years ago I used to use MTX competitively and absolutely loved their stuff. I've had suprising results from the Infinity stuff these days. Someone like SupraJames who I believe is an audio fitter may actually know which products are out there these days.
