Hi people,

My boss has been told he needs the slave cylinder replacing today on his ford focus as its leaking, the AA have just been out to do a quick fix as he couldnt get the car into gear.

He's called Mr Clutch to get a quote and been told that to replace this, the gearbox has to come out! They quoted a price of about £250 to fix and said that the clutch may as well be done at the same time, bringing the price to £350.

Just seems crazy that the gearbox has to come out! He's gona call Ford to double check, anyone had any experience?

Cheers

i can back this up. I had a friend with the same problem and a trusted mechanic said the same........

My friend made do for quite some time with frequent top ups and never holding the clutch down for any appreciable time..........

gearbox out!!!! we fit a new cylinder every time we do a clutch cos its not worth taking the box out again.
