View Full Version : Ripspeed DVD head unit for £399 - any good ?
Hi all,
Saw this in Halfords today, http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=233555&categoryId=31445&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=31445&crumb=31265&varient=&CarSelectorCatalogId=&CarSelectorGroupId= and thought of it for my work car, NOT the Supra.
Anyone know who makes these ? And if they're any good ?
Better if you knew who actually made them.
Exactly.
Anyone know who makes these ?
 ;)
Exactly.
 ;)
Better if I could read.
:D
So no-one knows then :search:
Might have to take a chance on one and report back, £399 seems quite good to me for a UK product fully guaranteed. I've always been skeptical of ordering one of the China cheapies from Ebay
at that price who cares you can always take it back if it`s no good.
yea halfords do good customer service, if its crap im sure they would take it back:)
Kinda what I was thinking, but I've just found this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=5079

If it was touch screen and didn't say ripspeed i'd definatly be tempted. I think you should buy it now Matt and give us a review
Yeah, the Ripspeed badge puts me off too. Plus I've just found this http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4131.html which could go with the same DVD player http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/3332.html

This is where i got my audio from for the ka, at the time, they were the best price, only went up for a MD Kenwood headunit, came back with headunit plus 2 channel Extreme amp and 10" Kicker sub. still saved at least £150. their in shop price is more tho, but all you do is quote the online price. I would go back to them, if i ever needed to buy again. Bonus for me too is i don't have to pay train fair to get up there, only tube fair
That headunit is out of the same factory as pioneer, but does not use the same internals as the pioneer units whatever the staff try and tell you. its major draw backs and the lack of touck screen and crap buttons, if you use one you will know what i mean they dont feel very nice/good quality.
The ripspeed units are s**t, my girlfriend bought one for her fto without telling me, and its had to be replaced 3 times, once for not out putting any sound (just got hot and blow) and twice for the screen not going back in kept getting stuck. in the end she got her money back. so stay away from them. i would go with the kenwood coz thats what i have in mine, but also you can have a dvd playin on the screen and be listening to a cd in the boot change at the same time. hope this helps
 As above - You seem to get what you pay for. My brother got one thats gone back twice he's got his money back now. I went for the Pioneer AVH-P5700DVD, touch screen good looks and you can add so much to it if you've got the money
the other thing I'd be worried about is that there are only one set of pre-outs which makes me wonder how your going to output in 5.1 or even 4.1.
Eidt: that's unless your not going to amp you front and rears.
Hmmm, good to know - cheers. I saw the one pre-out, and ordinarily this wouldn't have been any good, but it's only for the to-and-from work car.
Think I'll give it a miss :)
