Haha that needs a whole forum of its own.

I'm just thinking about good techniques, recommended products etc, and all encapuslated in a single forum, rather than having to trawl through the tehcnical/general/off topic sections.

Plus I wanted to discuss clay bars with people and didnt know where to post :D

Jazz, yeah that too, all part of the car detailing topic

Is this really big enough to justify a section of it's own, I ask myself?

My choice would be to have an Aesthetics Section where anything from detailing, bodykits, painting, interiors, retrims etc. could be discussed.

Warm bucket of water, radio humming in the background and nice comfy chair and I’m as happy as a pig in sh1t

Its the best!

How about just writing FAQ's on it? ie those with the knowledge writing up a guide?

How about expanding the ICE section to include detailing and indeed cosmetics in general?

How about expanding the ICE section to include detailing and indeed cosmetics in general?

Because what has car detailing got to do with In Car Entertainment? Car audio is a big enough topic on it own. Surely its no more difficult having a new forum that including it under another?

The FAQ's is a good idea, cleaning guides, recommended products, techniques + tips etc. Also resources online for info about taking care of your car etc.

I agree general bodywork should be including mods if wanted.

Its not exactly a brand new idea, loads of car forums have this section. :)

I see your point but I see ICE as tarting the car up...which is what cosmetic work does too...IYSWIM...

Yeah, I guess for the wanting to find things more easliy a separate forum would be better, ie if someone specifically wanted to look up car care info.

Maybe a new parent is needed (car modification, with child nodes of separate forums for ICE/Wheels/Bodykits/Car Care or detailing etc/ that sorta thing?

SinceI detail my own cars a lot, I'm in favour of this...

As a starter I'll put up the list of products I use...

Body

1. Sonax Wash and Rinse with CLEAN water
2. Meguairs Clay Bar and Rinse with CLEAN water
3. Einzett Wax polish soft remove with microfibre cloth
4. Poorboy's Natty's blue remove with microfibre cloth

Wheels
1. Mix of TFR and alloy cleaner
2. Alloys - Wash with sonax and then turtle wax for wheels
3. Rubber - Wash and treat with poorboys Bold and Bright

Scratches.
1. Machine polish with poorboys SSR Range

Interior
1. Autoglym car fresh or poorboys new car smell
2. Autogylm viynl care
3. Meguairs gold class leather cleaner

Chrome / Metal
1. Autosol if there are any scratches
2. Meguiars NXT metal polish to bring up the shine and put a layer of wax on

Going to do Graham S's car soon, so I'll put up pics of that when it is done.

Since there is a hosepipe ban currently on, I bought two chemical sprayers (10ltr hand pump ones), I have clean water in one, and sonax mix in the other, so they don't mix..

NEVER use a sponge, always use a wash mit, and have a bucket of clean water to rinse it out, never rinse the mitt in the bucket with the shampoo in it, you will leave all the dirt in the clean shampoo mix.

i've heard a lot of people reffering to micro fibre cloths lately, do these replace a chamois or are they more for a polishing use? Only asking as i'm starting to dislike chamois more and more.

JustGav

They replace them...

I use a microfibre drying cloth, http://www.cleanandshiny.co.uk/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=9923

and then a microfibre buffing cloth to take the various polishes and glazes off with.

Can the drying cloths be washed and reused, or is it a use once, throw away?

For a black car, I'd really recommend Natty's blue over the top, it gives an awesome shine on a black car...

Since I can remember, I have always used Armor All Tire Foam as others have not been so good IMO.

However, my local store did not have any in but, had an alternative which, I thought I'd give a try.

Still from Armor All but, an Extreme Tire Shine with a trigger type gun rather than a spray can of the foam tin.

WOW - much better - no overspray onto the paintwork (that you have just washed :( ) like the foam can, due to the trigger gun action and it really does stick onto the rubber. The foam finish was good after it had been sprayed on but, would dull down over a day or so.

I only used it last night for the 1st time but, I have been converted :)

I have always used Autosol metal polish but, it does take some work to get a good finish and feels a little course on the surface you are working on, I guess this is the cutting agent ??

Anyway, same as above, my local store did not have any in stock but, did have Autoglym's metal polish in.

I used some for the first time a couple of weeks back, the paste is a lot smoother and runnier and does not have as much cutting ability but, if you metal work is in good shape and just needs a quick shine up, the Autoglym stuff works a treat. Very easy to take off and not half as much effort needed as the Autosol.

If you need to get any kind of serious marks off the metal work, you need to use Autosol but, for a quick 5min shine up - Autoglym's for you.
