when taking out the 2nd cat only?

J-spec TT?

No you shouldn't need either if it is only the 2nd cat you are removing. If you remove teh first cat (which is more restrictive) then you probably would, removing both you definitely would. This is all assuming your car is a J-spec TT.

hey nic, your assumptions correct it is for a jspec tt. so i could just get my 2nd decat fitted with no need for a restrictor ring or fcd and itll be safe? also with just 2nd decat is there much noticeable gains?

You won't see much gain just removing the second cat, perhaps 0.1bar ie. you'll make around 0.9bar max. Yes it will be safe.

If you remove both cats you will see big gains, the car will be a lot more responsive and will pull a lot harder, however you will need to fit the following:

FCD - to prevent the ECU cutting fuel at over 1bar

Restrictor ring - to limit boost to around 1.1bar

Cooler grade of spark plugs - to prevent misfire at higher boost

Boost gauge - so you can monitor boost levels

Fuel pump - recommended to ensure adequate fueling

Fuel filter - recommended to ensure adequate fueling
