Has only developed in the last couple of days. When moving forward I get a squeek with each rotation of the wheel. When going slow it sounds very much like bed springs squeeking...

Doesnt seem to be anything to do with the brakes, as its the same squeek with them on or off (if that makes sense)

Think it could possibly be a bearing???

Anyone got any thoughts...

I have quite a bit of driving to do on Monday, so would be helpfull if I were to know that I should arrange another car or something...

hi
if its not the brakes which squeeked when mine went,it could be the shockers, which was my last problem, leaking oil from one side, still drivable though at the mo.plan to have them changed this weekend

dont think it could be the shockers as it happens with each rotation of the wheel. not when go over bumps and stuff..

prob a bearing

thats what im thinking.
anyone got any idea on the sort of money I may have to fork out? and if its safe for me to do about a 120 mile round trip (mostly M25 :()

Edd,

Possibly your handbrake shoes/springs.
Try lifting the handbrake slightly when moving slowly....check if the sound differs?

will do, cheers fella...

Not a definitive test though, better to remove the disc and inspect the springs/shoes and check for scorching inside the brake disc, the part that sits on the hub.

ok, i think it might be the hand break shoe/springs...
when i started my journey the squeek had gone, till i got down the road and it started again! so i slowed to about 10, pulled the handbreak slightly and all i got was a shhhhhhhh noise. the noise disapeared after that, for a little while now its back!

ok took the wheel off. theres no warped disk. theres no stones. the break shoes seem to be sitting fine. but when you spin the hub, theres a little squeek!

is there anything that I could oil perhaps???????

Bearing, or spring popped out in horse shoe. Both have happened to me. Sounds like bearing though. Do it quick or you can damage the hub!!!

is it quite a light squeaking noise? do your wheels expose your hub centres? only noticed it in hot weather driving with the windows down passing a hard obeject like a car or wall?

could be the retainer and split pin on the hub - mine squeaks like a bitch some times.

doubt it's a wheel bearing - they don't squeak, just a heavy grinding that gets faster as the car does.

the sound got quite bad on monday, this was after about a 80 mile trip, you could hear the noise from inside the car, with the windows up!
but yesterday the sound almost vanished, could hardly hear it with the windows down whilst driving past a wall!

the wheel covers the hub centres. and i have only noticed it this week since the weather has been getting a lot hotter out there.

we took the wheel off and turned the hub by hand, and the squeek was still there, its not a grinding noise, more of a shhhhhhh noise.

They do sqeek and not grind, hence why mone got bad. Didn't sound like a bearing so left it. It finally seized and rotated on the hub, and so damaged the hub aswell!!!!

Hi all, did you guys find the problem in the end?

Im having the same thing on mine, Its mainly noticable below 20mph and after that goes quieter - but makes as similar noise as if you are braking.

I also notice it comes and goes.
Its not brake related.

Any updates on this would be very helpful!
