Guest shanksy5
Hi guys First of all I should probably apologise. I'm aware that this topic has been covered a lot in the past. However, despite reading all of the posts I'm still having a frustrating time with my squeeky boot. The Problem Boot squeeks due to worn rubber blocks. The Proposed Solution Simple. Replace with new rubber blocks. The Issue I can't get the damn screws out! I've tried heating them to loosen them up but as I can't get the screwdriver flush with the head of the screw it's difficult getting the appropriate grip. I'm now starting to strip the head, which isn't helping. I thought that I may be able to pull the screws out after heating them with a pair of long nose pliers but that isn't helping either. Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I use a screw extractor to get it out, or would drilling into the screw be the only option? Any help would be massively appreciated, as this is now starting to get to me. Many thanks
Digsy
I used a screwdriver bit in a power drill to get mine out, but you have to get inside the boot and lean heavily on the drill and you only get once chance. Two out of four of mine came out this way. The other two I had to drill.
spidermonkey
i had to drill the screw head off mine, but they are locktited in so maybe a bit more heat will break the seal.
Kranz
Soak in WD40 for a few days applying daily. Split the old rubbers with a sharp knife & pull out. Heat up the captive nut from behind (if you can get to it... can't remember). Freeze the head of the screw with WD40 or plumbers freeze spray. Get some mole grips on the head of the screw & give it a good twist. Should get the buggers out.

jim_supra
You could also try hitting the end of the screwdriver with a hammer (don't go nuts on it though) as you turn, the shock on the threads should free them. this usually works for me. Homer
Another option: use a hacksaw blade to cut a deeper line in the head of the screw so you can use a large bladed screwdriver to undo it.
markssupra
If all else fails you might need to very carefully drill out the bolt and re tap (re thread) the hole with an M4 tap. I had to do that on mine when the buggers would not come out.
