My Missus is after a Supra. she is coming from an Mr2 t-bar.

she really fancies an aero top, but the condition of the cars is more important. so tin top no worries.

the thing is, i am convinced that the twin turbo model is obviously the one to have - finding them is harder.

are the N/A ones worth looking at? ;)

but seriously, from a subjective point of view, what is the ownership of the turbo versus N/A arguement?

if anyone can help cheers - done to death i am sure, but surely one of the most common debates on here! :D

If your MR2 is a NA then an NA supra is still a step up in the food chain, my old MR2 felt quicker but the NA is so smooth you will hit 120+ bloody fast and still feel like you were doing 60. Someone once said that if you put your foot down in a TT and count 5 seconds you get an almighty kick up the backside but if you slam your foot down in an NA then all hell breaks loose. The only down side is you will crave more power.

EDIT - misread

ok........................

The NA is a powerfull car, it is 220+HP and a good solid rear wheel drive. Far more driveable for the novice than a TT.

A TT is a more powerfull car, amazing to drive, very handleable by an experienced rear wheel driver.

The NA does not have to worry about a 2nd turbo kicking in on a roundabout on a wet day (or any day for that matter) and a double decat and decent exhaust is a cheap effective way of increasing power if required.

If you are interest, I will be putting a black NA for sale later this/next week.

In summary, very different cars for very different reasons. You need to tailor the car to suit you, your ability preference.

Based purely on what you have said, I would easily say that the NA would be an excellent starting point for your better half. Aftr a year of getting used to the size and differences from the mr2 and she may fancy a TT but in all honestly the looks are the same and the power in the NA is not shy at all!

FFS, comments like these really don't help.

I disagree.... i stand by my comment, it is that simple!! If the guy wants the car so he can 'secretly' have it for modding to high power then an NA is no good to him.

If he doesnt want it for this and as its for the girlfriend why bother with a TT when you can have a NA running on cheaper petrol, less servicing and to be honest although the TT is very reliable, better reliablity.

i bought an n/a and now wish i had waited a couple of months and got a tt.

i think it everytime i put my foot down!

how long have you had it mate?

I'll be honest, it took me a good few months to learn to properly drive the NA. Now, ask any TT driver who has followed me (paul e, supra tt myster....), they don't hang about when driven properly

I have an NA, and when I bought it I also considered the TT but I considered the following:

1. I am not technically minded although I will try simple jobs, there are less things to go wrong on a NA

2. 220bhp is no small thing in comparison to 95% of other cars.

3. When you look at a Supra, you dont know whether its an NA or a TT, they are both the same :)

4. The Supra forum is the friendliest bunch

availabilty on N/A is great.

price is great.

power and drive for her is great.

reliabilty is great.

me jumping into it every now and then a toasting it - not so great.

i have had highly modified subarus and evos (highly modded - not air filter, zorst and bleed valve touch) so i am used to bloody quick cars, hence my reticense towards an NA.

however it is to be HER car and she is concerned about fuel and does not worry too much about stupid poke, and frankly its better if she has a lesser powered version.

she has a 35 mile round trip every day, so the NA makes sense.

i suppose i should stop being so damn selfish, after all i have a rally car (mk1 escort rs2000) and a slightly modified 200 sx. i went for a competition car and decent road car as a compromise.

anyway, enough about me, the car IS for the missus and i reckon the NA is the way to go.

so manual of auto? she is not that fussed, though a manual would be more fun on the roads she drives and she does drive well and enjoys it. it would serve to improve her development as a driver.

given about 6k i reckon a decent supra na, with aerotop is achieveable - please carry on guys, i am enjoying your indulgement of my question. frankly i expected a few yawns and "use the search function" comments! :D:D

cheers so far! ;)

and the Mr2 is N/A.

the NA running cost and servicing cost is alot different to the TT

For starters an NA can be run on 95 petrol (not thats it cheap)

Mpg - only 4 mpg in it really between TT to NA

Spark plugs cheap enough - plus seem to go forever and the good old ones from halfords that are cheap will do.

Oil change doesnt have to be done as often.

Tyres will last longer as you cant wheel spin as much unless your trying of course ;)

Just remember to try and not have anything off the lights....there are alot of hot hatches now that will keep up :D
