Im going to take my headlamps apart pretty soon and the plan is to clean the pastic bit properly before I put them back together.

Anybody got any recommendations for what to use? Ibrar suggested some 3M cleaning stuff but Im struggling to find it.

The company is called CETEM and their phone number is 0121 749 7080. They specialise in supplying polishing kits for all kinds of materials, glass, metal, plastic, but the accent is on DIY use. So everything they supply is complete with all you need including full instructions. All you need is an electric drill. Oh, and you absolutely MUST wear goggles and a mask.

I mentioned the fact about the UK lights because that was a situation I faced after purchasing my car. I found though that it was the optical clarity of the plastic that had deteriorated. I tried to polish it out, and they did look better, but there was still a milky white sheen that I couldn't get rid of.

Best of luck.

ahhh, those were the days, listbot server and Steve Chohan.

I might give them a call and see what they recommend, or if Ibrar is about I might see where he got his from and see I can 'borrow' some.

I have the full process for removing and stripping the lights, takes about 6 hours per light to strip buff and rebuild properly.

John, you can buy 3M products from any good paint refinishers, I got mine from Brown Brothers, they have branches nationwide.
I used 3M perfect IT it is a light grade rubbing compound ( you need a mop for this).

I have since colour coded the internal surround Satin Black...I didn't like the Blue too much!

Yeh, I've got a few pictures, where can I post them?
My webpage needs sorting out, as I would have put them up there.

just pop them into the smartgroups files area and we can look at them from there.

I have put a picture up of my headlights, in the general pictures album.

thats exactly what I want mine to look like. Its just finding the time to pull out the headlamps and strip them down.

Which paint did you use and did you have to prep the area to be painted before hand or just clean it off and put the paint on?
