supra tt vs cosworth

Hi all new to this club.

I was looking to sell my beloved cosworth. I would like to know how a supra tt would compare to my cossie. The cossie is running stage 3 340bhp. It records with a g-tech meter 0 to 60 in 4.4 sec 1/4 mile in 12.6@120mph. It is running closed loop so when it is getting driven sensible it can return 35mpg. But i am having to rebuild the engine again only after 5k (a cracked block this time) it just seems to be never ending.

 

What sort of figures dose a tt achive or a slightly tunned one. Can they be chucked about an ind est with progresive oversteer. Or are they a more gt car for long runs.

 

I was thinking of an rx7 last year but the mpg put me off. As they a renowned for being a drivers car. But the engine did seem to be quite unreliable. Not that i dont mind getting my hands dirty as i am a mechanic to trade but it would be nice to come home from work and drive my car instead of working on it.

 

My girlfreind as an integra dc2 and really impressed me but if you live in the vetech it will put more fuel down its neck than the cossie.

cossie escorts are great, rare and pricey too! but the supra is just so much more tunable and more affordable man, so reliable, so sexy! a bpu sup which cost around £1k extra will produce in and around 400bhp fly, which is good for 12second qtrs and easily well under 4.6sec 0-60mph, i had a DC2 integra and they are great, for what they are, a nice vtec roaring fwd car, to be honest i think its very hard to find a car as satisfying to drive as a toyota supra! its great having nice fast tuned cars but sometimes u have to go with reliability first and when ur talking about supras 6speed getrag box in standard form can easily cope with 900bhp plus you cant go wrong there either!

im worried now because u keep talkin about fuel consumption, its a 3litre beast man so its not gonna be pretty! then again i drove 300 miles across england at an average speed of about 100mph and i still had some left in the tank!!

Sorry forgot to mention the cossie will hit the rev limiter in top (160mph) in under a mile and a half. What about the supra as top end is important to be.

mate the supra tt tuned can easily be to 600BHP with a relatively medium sized single turbo and some extra fueling mods and still have a car thats very reliable. No comparision IMHO in regards to looks, tunability and potential.

What sort of year or model do i have to get before i get a 6speed box and what sort of prices do they go for.

top end in stock 165 is possible, BPU, more power 180+.

all years mate have the 6 speed option, they cost a bit more mate, theres plenty in the autotrader, for one in very good condition and average/low miles 8.5k+ easily.

top end can be what ever the car is capable off, there are some people that has seen 170 on a stock car as i asked the same question, but then you have the mileage difference.

 

The supra is a rare car, your cossie is not so rare however its all about your choice at the end of the day, reliability is like every car as long as you look after it then it will not go wrong but a jap car will always be much much more reliable than any ford or non jap car

 

if MPG is a concern for you, i suggest you walk away now as booting it you will go through a lot of fuel and you will possible never ever achieve 35mpg even taking your time (stand to be corrected)

 

tuneability your cossie is in the juniour leagues, as the amount you can do with your cossie is limited TBH but with a supra as long as you have the money you have a 200mph car easily, sure you can get a 190mph cossie but the difference with a supra is as long as its done right the supra will handle the power no problem, fords break under extreme pressure

 

this is all in my opinion, some people might differ and have other opinions but its your choice at the end of the day

All sounds good to me just didnt want to be disapointed with a car that feels big and heavy and could not be chucked about. What about the cold starts in the morning as i live 2 miles from work and take the work and home for lunch is it hard on juice then. As the cossie is very bad on petrol when cold but exellent when warm. You would go on about mpg as well if you had to pay 1.05 per litre (as i live in the far north of scotland)

Hello m8. The supra engine and g/box standard are probably good for 4/500bhp with limited mods?. But more importantly are reliable if well looked after. EG, my JSpec tt was std, now chucking 410 @1bar with spending 1.8k, but thats with all the bits ready for a single when needed?, but for now

410 is more than ok?, can also turn boost up to 1.2 if needed, giving more bhp if required. These babies are bomb proof if looked after, oil and stuff regulary. Cossies look ok, but compared to the soop, well???

lol the supra TT will drink fuel like its going out of fashion mate, and as for chucking about, have you ever tried to "chuck" a supra about? its not as tail happy as some people make out but it can snap away from you if you dont treat it with respect, your 4wd cossie can be chucked about, but you wont be able to chuck a 326bhp supra about the same as your cossie, you will be in a wall quicker than you bought the car

What about the supra as top end is important to be.

Realistically MPG will be give or take an average of 18-23

no experience of a Cossie or any 4wd car and i think the supra may well feel heavier but it can be chucked about and isn't prone to excessive roll (Jap specs are firmer). Its a good handling car not just loads of grunt, i think you'll grow to like it. I think the worse thing that people comment on is the lack of steering feel compared to the more true sports cars......

A British magazine journalist got 175 out of a Stock UK spec Supra.

OH!!

chalk and cheese. The cossie is/was a great car but it's no comparison really. My mates one used to get an engine rebuild more than I had hot dinners. OK when it ran he got good bhp out of it, but it was a never ending money pit. Read on this forum, a large proportion of the TT owners have circa 400bhp or more in a perfectly reliable and drivable set up.

 

Bog standard some reports say 181 or even 186 mph is achievable in stock form, also a 4.9s (or 4.6s 0-60) in stock form. Conditions permitting of course, that's solid performance to build upon.

 

People run single turbos on here with well in excess of 500bph and the engine and box (esp manual) are so over enginered that you can almost treat them like 'black boxes' that just work. You need to keep a good eye on things (fueling etc though) as with any high performance turbo car, a fault can rapidly lead to engine meltdown and a large bill.

 

My suggestion, go drive one, preferably a well set up bpu car and see what you think.

 

I reckon you will be suprised by the effortless torque, the high speed and rolling acceleration and effortless top speeds. If it's a j-spec you will be shocked by the virtually lagless turbo spool too... go drive one and see what you think!

cosworth are great, im a big fan, ive had an RS500 and a few saphs

ive always had them tuned, (madevlopments) its just they go wrong so often

supra is very realiable compared

Lots of people have done high 12's with BPU cars. MonkeyMark did high 11's...
