first of all its just a normal spanner to undo the sump on the engine, dont know of the gearbox.

2ndly it doesnt go smoothly...trust me :D

I basically emptied 3 litres of oil over the road. Make sure you have a container underneath that can hold about 5litres.

Also i find when ur doing the filter put a black bag under the filter to catch the filter and oil that comes out...ohh and have a rag or kitchen roll to hand to wipe oil off.

I put the oil back in through a funnel in the oil cap on top of the engine (although i am an NA)

yeah just a normal spanner will do (14mm IIRC)

you forgot something off the list tho... VERY thin arms to help change the filter, it's a proper pita!

whoa there boy, whats that crap your putting in the gearbox Type IV fluid from Toyota is the ONLY thing that should be going in there if you want it to last, do a search on checking the trans fluid level as well as its pretty important you get it right

No.

I put about 3 litres in , leave it for 5 minutes then a little more in until it gets to about the mid level on the dipstick.

Don't put too much in.

It will go down a little after you run the car.

Other stuff and Transmission servicing , make sure use the correct amount of oil. You don't want to knacker the gearbox.:D

errr i really would'nt trust a guy who sells oil (no offence) but toyota do not specify dexron 3, is the N/A different (stands to be corrected)

I'm with Paul Mac. I don't put anything other than Toyota Type IV in my auto box.

OTOH I know Dude used to put Type II in his - but then he was always breaking his car too!

Guys, the n/a gearbox is different (despite having the same Toyota number!)
It does not need Type IV

Off on a slight hijack... Where's the best place to get the SST for the filter?

JohnA

What SST?
Any oil filter tool should do.
Just hold a supra filter and see if the tool can hug it.

In my experience the oil filters can be on very tight.

One of these type http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VEHICLE-OIL-FILTER-WRENCH-TOOL-BRAND-NEW_W0QQitemZ8065462527QQcategoryZ30917QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemwill save a lot of swearing, they clamp on very firmly and you can get lots of leverage. Their downside is its not quick to slacken and retighten with confined spaces but once the filters turned 1/4 to 1/2 a turn its removable by hand........

If it's anything like the Soarer, one of these makes removing the oil filter a lot easier

Workshop manual says 5.2 liters required with filter change, 4.9 without (2JZ-GE). 5.0 and 4.7 respectively for GTE.

Use a plastic litre jug for measuring and re-filling into the filler top.
