Vacuum Tubing replacement

Right then guys, I think this might have been better in technical, but hey.

I'm thinking of replacing all my vacuum tubing with some new stuff and have a couple of questions:

1) I was thinking of going silicone (probably SAMCO). Is this recommended, or is there another option which is preferred.

2) What is the internal diameter of the vacuum tubing, and what wall thickness is recommended?

3) Do I need clamps at the connections ?

4) How much tubing will I need to replace the lot ?

5) Will I get a sarky comment from Jake the post whore :p ?

I would appreciate any suggestions you might have

Cheers

Mike

Can I just Hijack this thread Arrrggghhh ?

Are there any "simpleton guides" on changing these hose things ?

Ok, what I'm getting at is, can they all be just simply removed/replaced or are there some with "stuff" in that comes out and leaks/squirts and then wishes you'd stayed in bed ?

Thanks,

Shaun.

My take is the WORST POSSIBLE stuff to use is silicone vac / pressure hose, use Gates or Wurth black "rubber" hose or buy stock ones. The silicone stuff is slippy, has no fabric core, so splits for fun, and (IMO) looks naff in silly colours. I see more vac probs with silicone hoses than I do with old, tired, original ones!

Umm, nothing comes out.. Vacuum hoses deal with Air not fluids.

Oh bugger. I was always led to believe that silicon hoses were better :( Now I've got a bag of 'em and thinking twice about installing them.

I had a kit on my Soarer and had not one problem with it. No splits or anything and they never came loose. Just need to replace the cable ties whenever you have work done that requires hoses to be removed. Not a problem though as they supply more then enough color coded ones with the kit. ;)
