I finally got the picture of the turbos downloaded from the camera. Please excuse the lack of focus, I will try again some time and not get so close.

go to

for all the pictures

but for ease of access

this is the UK spec turbine (left) against a j-spec turbine (right). Notice the vastly thicker shaft

Wow! Now I'm totally blown away.

I know Ash believes that the extra power(?) in the UK car comes from the cams but it just occurs to me, what is the *true* bhp difference between a j-spec and a uk-spec vehicle?

To summarise what I understand are the differences

1. Turbos

2. Injectors

3. Cams

4. Diff

5. Suspension settings

6. Turbo cooling

7. Brakes

What else is there? I'm going to keep a binary copy of the final list.

I am ignoring the ICE, headlight cleaners, etc. as being irrelevent to performance.

Diff oil cooler

Glass headlights

Larger petrol tank

larger fuel pump

Sorry, the oil coiler was what I was thinking about when I listed it. I should have made it clearer.

I'm pretty sure the glass headlights and fuel tank come into the same category as headlight washers (without some pedantic git talking about relative air resistance, or weight of fuel load).

The fuel pump is interesting in that I have seen reference to that being upgraded on a j-spec under certain conditions, so I'll include that on my list.

1. Turbos

2. Injectors

3. Cams

4. Diff (incl. oil cooler)

5. Suspension settings

6. Turbo cooling

7. Brakes

8. Fuel pump

I'll put this in it's own thread, sorry JB.

*moved to "performance differentiators"*

OK people this thread become not only very interesting, political to two differing views and groups of owners but also predicated upon the results of the thread may assist my understanding on the true differences between the two motors.

Suffice to state that the UK TT I saw and have an interest in has a Blitz kit, exhaust, intercooler, air and is 43000 on the clock.

Would this improve the spool up?

I don't want to loose the immediate spin of the wheels and the back of the car spinning out left or right upon take off - THAT'S FUN!!!LOL !

derrrr, now I'M confused....

I always thought the JAP' had the smaller turbo's which is

why we have quicker spool-up, but slightly less HP ! ! !

Larger turbos always A) spool SLOWER

and B) produce more HP (normally !)

ie. early Escort Cossie BIG turbo - more HP bad lag

later Escort Cossie SMALL turbo - less HP less lag.

OR.........................

John..... ? ?

So. I have seen a Blitz UK TT. Cooler, air, pipe the lot at a great price with 43000.

With the limiter and slow spool be a slower car than the jap model? despite the additions on a UK car?

Is this all down to just the turbo's....... can only really gain a solid answer from a technical point of view.:)

Midlife.

A j-spec and UK spec in stock for are pretty equal in terms of outright performance.

A decatted UK should spool as fast as a catted j.

And the punch from a UK is bigger.

In short get a UK if you can. In the long term it makes more sense when you consider the brakes and injectors etc....

turbo sizing and specs are not my bag, I dont get scroll maps and AR ratios at all. Leon has explained it a couple of times but its never sunk in, he's told me the spec on his twins a few times but I still dont understand them.

CW put the fact that the UK specs cant overboost with a decat purely down to the design of the turbos, different AR ratio.

Would need somebody like Leon, Terry or Nathan to give us a laymans view of what the differences are.

As Alex said, UK spec will give the same end result as an import, just delivers it in a different way. The UK spec has a massive kick at about 4,200rpm, imports kick at about 3,800rpm but slightly less violent. I ran my import at 1.4bar for a long time so I was spoilt really, I only run my UK at 1.2bar.

It all depends what you want from a car, I wanted bigger brakes and injectors as well as cruise and cream leather, so it had to be a UK spec.

Hi Paul, good to see you back :)

Doesn't affect outright performance but the UK has a better (albeit slightly) TC system that can work on the brakes as well.

On the diffs, not only is there different ratios, but all UK's have an LSD, only some J spec's do.

There is also the Active Spoiler, again debatable benefit.

112 MPH speed limiter ;)

yep, I dont prune the technical section at all, all the good stuff and the drivel stays in here so its always worth searching the technical section if you want something.

I had forgotten that I posted the pics until MidL mentioned the turbo sizes.
