Redex Petrol Treatment - anyone use it? any good?

Many years ago one of my mates used to use this quite regularly and used to sing it's praises...

I've never actually tried it myself but was wondering what you all thought? good or bad for the engine? waste of money?

Waste of Money...optimax is a good cleaner

but Optimax doesn't have the plumes of smoke that Redex does..?!!

those plumes of smoke you talk about is the muck that was on your injectors, or something like that, so in other words for you redex worked

so it's not going to be the bottle of shite you just poured into the fuel tank then, it's going to be deposits from the 1mm hole in your injector?

Redex was originally made for carb engines. It is a cleaning agent that helped remove lead deposits. You only got it smoking if you used too much in your petrol. I used to use it in my moped as that always used to have a sticky jet.

It probably does nothing in cars that run unleaded. Proper injector cleaner will do the job better if you think redex is cleaning your injectors, because it is obviously formulated to clean injectors. duhh!

Off the shelf octane boosters raise the octane by a maximum of 0.2 ron. Not a lot for your money.

Yeah they're all misleading, they'll say "raises octane by 2 points!!!1!!", by which they mean 0.2 RON like you say.

Stick 10% toluene in, much better

The '2 0ctane Points' is according to their over-optimistic research, I doubt they make much difference at all.

Toluene does the job, and works out a lot cheaper.
