Just registered and looking for a wee bit of info about to look for when going to see a Supra TT Manual?? Are there any specific areas which are known to cause problems at certain mileages.. eg, I used to own an ST205 GT4 and they are known to have Figure 8/Lower Arm problems around 50-60k mile mark.. is there anything like that with the Supra TT??

At the moment I'm deciding what to buy as a 'fun/weekend' car and the Supra TT is just one of the options that I'm considering at the moment. :)

How easily modified are these cars?? What parts 'need' uprating from standard to prelong life of the engine/turbos??

For instance, could I run a full de-cat exhaust, boost controller at 1.2bar and induction mods reliably without causing stress?? What sort of power level would that put me at??

I come from a background of Imprezas and my ST205 GT4.. The Imprezas were difficult to get above 300bhp reliably, the Celica was certainly a lot easier to extract power from.

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Grant

Not really, recommended to get cam belt changed around that mileage though.

Good man, look no further ;)

If it's a J-spec car then you wouldn't even need a boost controller, full decat and you should hit 1.2bar (and possibly higher and need a restrictor ring in the exhaust!). You'll need Fuel cut defender other than that probably need some colder plugs but thats about it (cue somebody saying you need an uprated fuel pump even though you don't really). If your stock intercooler is really knackered probably a good idea replacing it.

Should be in the region of 380-400BHP.

Thanks for the buying guide Rayman... lots of useful info there!! :)

How much are the 'normal' mods for these cars, De-Cats, UK Spec Brakes, etc..

Does a de-cat section automatically come with the 'ring' needed to control over-boost, or is that a 'modification' that needs to be made after purchase?? (How many CATS does the TT Supra have??)

How much (typically) will a Cambelt Service cost on a 94 Jap TT 6-spd??

I like the idea that minimal mods will see me up over 350bhp.. while still staying reliable, while its a weekend car primarily.... it will also occasionally do the odd trip to town/friends houses through the week. Can I run 1.2 bar without a FCD, I've not used one before and have always been warned away from them.... can you put my mind at ease!! lol!! :)

I was always impressed with how I could throw around my Imprezas down the lanes, my ST205 was a decent wee machine when the going got twisty too. How is the handling on these cars with the stock set-up??

Cheers,

Grant

Welcome mate :)

You can't just fit two decat pipes and expect it to work, you need the supporting mods too (Look up BPU in the FAQ section for details). Provided the car already has a cat-back aftermarket exhaust it shouldn't cost more than £800 for all the bits & labour.

UK Brakes just under £1k

Don't forget to keep some cash aside to run the thing though, some of the spare parts can be on the pricey side!

Most cat replacement pipes will not come with the restrictor ring, my advice is to buy from Chris Wilson (trader on here), he makes his own pipes and will supply a restrictor ring if required. They're quality bits of kit and used by many people here.

The supra has two cats

I think they're normally around £200 from Toyota, but almost no one here uses main dealers as most haven't got a clue what to do with a Supra. You're better off going to a specialist.

You need an FCD to run 1.2 bar, stock fuel cut happens around 0.9 (Someone will tell me thats wrong though!).

Personally I have been decatted (with a few other bits) running 430bhp for over 2 years & 30k miles. It gets driven every day and is my only car. Aside from the odd little fault its been absolutely fine. Pretty much every problem I've had have been due to poor maintainance from the previous owner.

Stock setup with the optional bilsteins is very good, though many opt for aftermarket springs. The Eibachs are a popluar choice. Make sure you get the allignment checked, maybe try the 'LanceW' setup. Incorrect allignment completely screws up a Supras handling (from expereince!!)

Driving the car is a totally different experience to an Impreza, you need to be much more careful with the throttle and very aware of what the car is doing - particularly in the wet.
