View Full Version : power aerial wires
Right guys, more help needed here. Have a replacement aerial (both mast and motor if needed) as the one on my car has been snapped since i got it.
at the time i didn't realise that the Supe had a power aerial. there is no noise or anything from the motor of the current aerial so i was looking to see if it's connected into the back of my stereo.
after removing the dash and cage (and noticing the batteries on my camera!) i hurredly took the following photos.
Anyone able to tell me which (if any) are the one for the power aerial? NB there are no wires going in or out of the relay box above the cage, only those in the photos there.
please help as i really can't be arsed calling an auto electrician :(
ps, to make it harder for you i've made the pictures as blurry as possible :d
Blue, can't remember which one.
Have you got a multi-meter to test for it?
i can get my hands on a multimeter, wouldn't know where to put the terminals though :(
anyone at all??
Black probe on the radio chasis or a suitable ground. Red probe inside the plastic blocks where the silver terminals should be visible. Measure volatge in DC mode. Should go from 0 to vbatt when in radio mode.

inside which plastic block though? i can't figure out which wire it is supposed to be lol
Should be the blue wire...
Should be the blue wire...
can you see it in any of the pictures mate?
looks like it'll be an auto-electrician for me then.... :(
Are the white plactic blocks coming from the car - or the radio?

they're coming from the car mate, then the wires from those go into the black blocks which in turn go into the radio.
ok,
so in pic2 i can seen a blue wire. That should be your remote wire. It might even have 'remote' or something printed on it. Anyway you should test this wire first.
Does it give 0V when radio off? 12-14V when radio on?
If so, this should activate the aerial if its connected. If not then the aerial motor might be damaged. Not sure if it has a fuse worth looking for.
I havn’t got around to changing my radio yet so I only have your pics to go by.
Cheers
cheers dude, will give that a shot........just have to dismantle the dashboard again for the umpteenth time lol
If your using a non standard stereo this might be a lil bit more awkward than you thought, means you have to link out a wire on the electric aerial relay box too, which is just above the stereo, this is what i had to do with mine too.
Do a search for electric aerial, theres a few threads on it.:D

strange, i would have thought that i'd just have to make sure the signal wire from the Alpine HU was connected with the signal wire that leads to the aerial itself.
the relay box has no wires going into it at all!! :(
i removed the plastic facias from around the boot and took a peek at the existing aerial from the inside.........take a look at the pics i found.
this doesn't look like an electric aerial to me! :search:
also, a picture from the outside as i'm sure this part is also different to the stock aerial (too small a hole for the stock aerial to fit through!)
any ideas guys? :(
That is definitely not the stock power aerial.
Not very helpful I'm afraid - other than to confirm what you expected.
Mike
F*ck.
looks like i'm going to need some help with this. i have a replacement motor and mast but it's the black plastic cover on the outside that i'll need (as well as getting the old one off!)
:bump:
anyone know if it's possible to get the black plastic part that goes on the outside of the wing separately?
When I last bought a power aerial it came with all sorts of plastic covers for the outside.
Perhaps try halfords if they sell it separate.
If not i'll check when I get home if I have anything left over.
cheers dude. if anyone else has this piece of plastic trim that I could have please give me a shout.
