now the sun has gone and it is back to rain, i have the day off so thought i would do something productive,

pressure tested the system for leaks, pulled it into a vaccum then charged it up and it works a treat.

like an ice box in there!

does anyone have a sticker under the bonnet saying a weight or amount of refrigerant? (R134a) because mine is missing so did it by judgement for now

cheers

So you didn't exactly fix it but performed the general maintenance on it that it required.

well found the leak where the pipes fit onto the compressor and tightened them up a bit to stop the leak, (forgot that bit!) so its fixed alright, well it will do until i get the correct weight,

how much to fix bud?

was quoted approx:

£250 to recon my compressor (could be more)

8 hours labour = £360

New drier/filter = £70

leak test & re-gas approx £60

to a total of about £750 :( am seeing if I can get this done a bit cheaper, but still gonna be at least £500)

I too would like to know how you pulled a vacuum and purged they system, do you have the specialist tools for the job?

When I had mine done it seemed to be quite a precise science.

i am a fridge / air con engineer so i have all the gear i need in my van. i pressure tested with ofn (oxygen free nitrogen) up to 150psi, then i have a vac pump to pull it down.

i have never had any experience with the disposable bottles but if you put it in too much too fast you can damage your compresor by giving it liquid instead of gas. plus you need a set of gauges so you know what is goin on in there!
