View Full Version : need new amp!
only one speaker in my car is working so i booked it into sound gallery in high wycombe to be looked at and they said the standard amp is broken.
so im thinking i might aswell upgrade it a little, they gave me quote of £850+vat for a new 4 channel amp and 4 uprated speakers all fitted.
does his sound about right? anyone know of anywhere else in the bucks area that you can recomend?
or any members that are a bit handy with this sort of thing that want to give me a price? (no cowboys:p )
wat no way you could buy some alpine
Seems too expensive to me. Depends on the quality of speaker. You know how it is. you get what you pay for.
My sugestion would be ask the make and model of speaker and amp and look them up. This should give you a good idea!
didnt get the makes but he said the amp was £350 and the speakers were £150 a pair
this is the place i went to.:)

I think you'll do well with the sound gallery. If this kit is badly fitted then its money wasted. They can fit with the best of them, I would expect a top job.
Bad speaker fitting means bad sound, trust me I have a lot of experience in this dept.

I don’t know the place but £850+ vat which is basically £1K is really, really expensive just for an amp and speakers.
depends on the make... focal K2p afront and rear and Audison an amp would come to more than that, £1000.approx
ok thanks guys, i think im gonna go for the sound gallery, they have a good reputation and i can trust them with the car
Hi Jamie
If you can wait a few weeks for postage (best sent surface post due to weight), I should be able to save you quite a bit of money on new amp and speakers.
cheers

IMO i think you might be able to get alot more for your money elsewhere but if you're happy then then go for it.
Can they not just give you a labour quote and supply your own?

I flogged out about £150 a pair on the speakers I put in my car but I spent nowhere near the £500 marker on the amp and the sound in my car was OK. I'm no techy guru in the ICE dept and unless you are and want awesome sounds then I'd have thought that a grand flogged out on a stereo system is a bit over the top. Money spent on speakers is generally a good thing but unless you want to make your ears bleed I'm not sure I could say the same about amps. Head units these days provide quite an impressive sound. £500 spent on a really decent head unit would improve the look of the car and IMO be money better spent. You could even go DVD for that cash.
