Supercharged Supras.

Is there or has there ever been a supercharged only Supra?

Seems like a good charger would give power straight away and so would be pretty handy. What's the highest BHP you could take a Supra to with a SC? Any ideas of cost? Would going from TT to SC be a step backward or a more sensible option than going for a single?

Thank you

Would you not have to push a disproportionate amount of power through the engine to get the same HP at the flywheel as you do for a big single?

I did some rough calcs based on Ian C's 626BHP dyno run and estimated that it was taking some 71hp to drive the compressor. On a turbo that comes from the exhaust. With a supercharger it has to come from the engine itself, so an equivalent SC engine would actually be producing 697BHP once you take the addiional parasitic loss into account.

Of course, the peak torque would be a tad lower down the rev range :)

This is what i am looking into for my na but as of yet i havent really looked into it yet as i want the car on the road first then i will look into it more seriously. The idea for me is to have something a lil diff rather than more power.

I'd love to go SC rather than NA-T - it would suite my driving style more since I don't do a lot of high speed motorway driving, buch more A and B road blatts :) )

Anyone have any idea on prices for this?? Would it work out similar to a turbo conversion (price wise)?

BMEP on old style supercharger installations was very poor, you'd have to look at a clutchable SC like on the AMG SL55 Merc, or some other new generation supercharged engines. Chargecooling would be needed too, and a workable turbo installation will, as a result, be a lot cheaper and easier to arrange than an equivalent efficiency SC installation.

So does this mean we can't somehow fabricate lots of pipes and fit on one of the superchargers from a new BMW Mini-Cooper S? (They are easily found on eBay from new cars)..

It's be easier to manufactor a new manifold and valves to use larger turbo's in sequence surely?
