Binding calipers = stupid fuel consumption?

On the Aristo, my right rear caliper and front left caliper are binding. I didn't realise how badly until I went to get my alignment checked and two guys at the garage could barely move the car while it was on the ramp. Since the front caliper started binding, fuel consumption has absolutely plummeted, and I mean almost single figures. Fair enough, that's town driving in a heavy auto car, but it was never this bad - you guys reckon it's because of the calipers? Cheers
