Guest lotus49
Some of you will have seen my other posts asking for advice about Supras as I am thinking of swapping my Impreza STi for one. I have had a lot of useful and thought provoking information, but what it comes down to now is trying to arrange a test drive to see for myself. Can anyone recommend a friendly Supra specialist in the North (I live just North of Leeds, but I wouldn't mind travelling a bit) who might let me drive a couple of cars to see what I think? I am used to driving quick cars and I'm not going to do anything stupid, but they would need to understand that I might not necessarily buy straight away as I am still researching. Although I daresay I will still be asking for more advice, I would prefer to buy a well tuned car rather than do this myself. I love cars, but I am much more interested in driving than the mechanical aspects and I don't have any desire to turn myself into a tuning expert. The sort of car I am thinking of would be a late UK spec car with 500-600BHP. Preferably with well-sorted suspension but without too much in the way of Max Power body kit. I quite like some body kits, but I'd rather my car looked like it belonged on the grid of a GT race rather than like something out of Flash Gordon. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. PS I'm off to Bulgaria for three days tomorrow so I may not see any responses until I get back but I shall read them and I would be grateful for any suggestions. Scooter
The sort of car I am thinking of would be a late UK spec car with 500-600BHP. Jurgen seems well respected on here although i don't think he holds much stock as such. I'd expect some local members would give you a demo of theirs but an actual drive may be harder to negotiate! Pixelfill
Before anyone shoots me down in flames for this post can I please state that in NO WAY am I suggesting you should even consider buying from them, but for a couple of test drives, to determine whether an Auto or a Manual is for you, you could try Keighley Trade Centre, They are quite local to you, and typically have plenty of cars (be it a little rough) in stock, and would be happy to let you test drive them. Failing that you could try Vine Place in Northumberland. Then, as suggested above, get Jurgen to source you a car of your choice to your spec. Just to pick up on a couple of points here: A 500+ bhp car will need to have a single/parallel twin turbo upgrade (Hybrid would not manage this), therefore your choices are more limited. There were only 650 or so UK cars made, with probably 400 or so left. Of those very, very few would have been 'singled'. That leaves just a handful of cars, of which only one or two will be for sale. With the level of power you are looking at there's almost no benefit in going for the UK car, almost all the 'UK' goodies will have been binned for aftermarket parts so you may as well ignore the cars' Domestic Market. Jurgen is without a doubt the best person to contact to source a specialist car. GT-Cars are another option if money is no object (you will pay a considerable premium!). DO NOT bother with any non-supra specialist importer or trader for this level of car though. Good luck in your search
