Apexi SAFC - Is it needed for BPU?

Wouldn't have thought so if you still have the standard injectors, especially since you already have a boost controller. I think that the standard approach is to install a SAFC to trim back larger injectors than standard.

That said a few people have seen benefits from a remappable piggyback on BPU just to tidy things up, apparantly the standard ECU can't map beyond 1bar.

So in short, don't think you need it, but might see a benefit / safer fueling at 1.2bar.

Sure someone will be along soon to prove me wrong :D

...If I'm BPU, do I need the SAFC that's fitted to the car?.

You don't *need* it, but if you fit it and adjust it with a wideband you can get an extra 20-30bhp between 4K and 6.5Krpm:)

Yours is a UKSpec remember, so fuelling capacity is 20% higher from the factory. Your ECU really dumps fuel by the bucketload over 4Krpm.

I have an SAFC II on my car at BPU levels - took it to Thor for a setup at 1.2 bar and they said they couldn't do much with it as I needed *more* fuel.

Seemed very odd to me as I was expecting them to take some out as John has mentioned above.

Since it was 'setup' I've had more lag low down and decreased fuel economy.

The moral of the story is that it will be of benefit but be careful who sets it up :)

If you don't trust anyone around you to do it properly and you don't feel confident to DIY, then best leave it alone.

Running very rich under those conditions won't hurt anything really, and the power hike is not very noticeable in the grand scheme of things.

Most of the time you're in closed-loop mode anyway, and that should be left untouched by the SAFC.
