View Full Version : Whats the recommended EBC for singles
Hey All,
Just wondering whats the recommended electronic boost controller for basic boost control, dont need anything fancy and only upto 2bar.
I like the look of the HKS EVC 5 but seems pricey for what i need, maybe something more like the Blitz Dual SBC Type-R.
My Blitz SBC-ID3 works just as well with my single as the twins, power meter with the speed map is a useful add on too.
whats your WG spring pressure Wez??

Use the AEM wez. It's better at controlling boost than any EBC, as it references absolute pressure, rather than gauge pressure. (Certainly better than the Blitz unit I had)
I bought the GM solenoid from pace autoparts in the US, with the loom for it. Cost about £30 IIRC.
Tony is that true. I stopped using the Autronic as its doesnt control too well, neither I was told does the Motec.
I'm still sorting mine, but even with my very poor attempt at controlling it, I can hit 17psi +/- 0.3psi every time. That's just using the error FB. If you were to use the P+I error FB, apparently I should be able to get it even closer than that. The good thing is that as I mentioned before, as the sensor measures absolute pressure, it controls it in absolute pressure. That's all using the stock solenoid as well. I haven't fitted the GM one I bought yet as I found after I ordered it I don't need it until I go single.
be very interested in the boost curve once you are done mate.
if you want a basic controller i use a profec b it does exactly what it says on the tin - controll boost- no whistles or bells, i have an eye level boost gauge so dont need an unreadable digital display and dont need to know my battery voltage ! pic in my garage of it installed, it cost £100 off e-bay

i hear alot of good things about blitz controllers.
I personally use Apexi AVCR and find it a very good unit (once set up correctly)

Hey Guys,
Right my wastegate spring is wound all the way in and I am hitting approx 1bar, with out wound out i should hit about 1.3bar if i remember correctly.
I have used the AEM for boost control before and agree its very good but you can only have two boost settings as far as i am aware by wiring in a high/low switch.
I guess i could get three settings but wiring two switches, use one to to turn boost control on and off and the other to have two boost settings which are both above wastegate pressure.
I use to have the AEM control boost when I was running the stock twin setup and had turbo 1 hitting approx 0.8bar and then with both online about 1bar which worked really well.

I have a brand new GM boost solenoid with loom for sale.

You can control boost in 1 of 3 ways mate. Hi/Lo switch as you described, by vehicle speed, and by RPM/TPS.
The first two are a piece of the proverbial to set up, the third may take a little playing with but nothing major I would have thought.
The fact that you had it working to start with means the hard work with regards to duty cycle and error control is done, so it's literally a case of selcting your target method, and in the case of RPM/TPS spending probably an hour or so setting it up. :)

No worries. Am not playing with it at the moment though as I was getting different AFR's every time I went into boost ;)
I think we might have to have a mini AEM meet to sort out some tuning, I also need to lean mine out a bit as its still pretty rich.
I will have a look at the weekend but cant remember what I have done with my boost control solenoid :(
I found some some bits from when I did my single install, can anyone confirm which one of these is the boost control solenoid.
I think it might be the first one :search:

I've heard alot of good things on the Profec B also. I'm looking to buy one.
